    CORALINE(3D) - Amazing! Fantastic! Awesome! GRADE: A-plus

Recently I attended this 101-minute movie-adaptation of established British author, Neil Gaiman's, novel.

I was mesmerized from start till end.

I read the novel 6 years ago - and the metaphor/allegory-filled story enthralled me.
The 3D movie was a visual smorgasbord of the HIGHEST-QUALITY stop-motion animation(not CGI). Under the competent direction of Henry Selick, the novel was transformed into surrealistic captivating art. The fantasy/horror story/novel was awarded the 2003 Hugo Award for Best Novella, the 2003 Nebula Award for Best Novella, and the 2002 Bram Stoker Award for Best Work for Young Readers - a testimony of Neil Gaiman's masterful story-telling and imagination - and creativity.

A tremendous amount of thought and planning resulted in extremely detailed fantastic sets and costumes. Kudos also to the voice-talents of the talented and expressive cast!

    VERDICT:
    A MUST-SEE.
    Not to be missed.
So far, Coraline is the BEST 3-D animated movie!

Coraline was NOT directed by Tim Burton!!

CORALINE was directed by Henry Selick. Tim Burton was not involved in ANY way. For those of you who make this assumption merely because it is stop motion animation please look a little closer to the credits next time. This is not a Tim Burton film any more than WALLACE & GROMIT movies are. Henry Selick ALSO directed THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Tim Burton was the producer and also contributed the story and production design but did NOT direct.

Hate to burst your bubble but he did not really direct CORPSE BRIDE either, The day to day directing was done by another fellow name of Mike Johnson with Tim poking his head in to view shots every so often. Again story and production design were Tim's main contribution here. Other people did the heavy lifting and Tim gets all the credit.

I am sick and tired of Henry Selick not getting his due. How would you like it someone else kept getting the credit for YOUR work? CORALINE is ALL Henry Selick and not one iota Burton's.

    Great entertainment

    by dm_sf

I was thoroughly amused through the whole movie. The animation effects were subtle and helped tell tale without overpowering the story. However, the story lacked some coherence and obviously did not translate perfectly from the written word. All and all I look forward to seeing it again.

    Caroline 3-D

    by anela

I thought this was a great movie for both the kids and I. (Me being a big kid at heart) We are big Tim Burton fans so this was right up our alley! It was visually pleasing with lots of twists and turns. A little slow getting started but worth it. I am very glad that we went to see it in 3D instead of waiting for it to come out on DVD. The kids were very excited about it and are still talking about it weeks later. It was for mine and possibly for your kids, a lesson in seeing all the good things in their life and appreciating them as they are!

    A Creepy Surreal Experience!

I wouldn't recommend this movie for the under-10 crowd, but if you have tween or teen kids, they will love it! Selick's comment that related this film to "Wizard of Oz" in terms of scare-factor is very accurate, so if you wouldn't watch the Wicked Witch with your kiddies, skip this one for now.
I highly recommend the 3D experience! The creators invert the expected, in-your-face 3D (like you will see in the opening previews) and instead opt for a rich and sophisticated depth-3D. The background is pushed INTO the screen so that the characters come to the literal forefront, like a wonderful pop-up book, tying the movie to Gaiman's inspirational work. This was an amazing effect, and though there are jump-out moments, they aren't overdone.
The plot does not hesitate to explore the dark and lonely side of only-childom with a pair of busy parents (though the film adds a character that significantly changes this ethos). As the tagline cautions, though, "Be careful what you wish for."

    LOVED IT!!!! AWESOME MOVIE

Coraline was awesome!!!! I have 2 girls one is 6 and the other is 5 and they loved it!!!!!! They watch the Nightmare before Christmas everyday and they said Coraline was just like Nightmare. I also brought my daughers friend she is 7 and all 3 girls loved it. It had some parts that might be scary to younger kids under 5, but overall it was awesome!!!! :)

    Unordinary name, unordinary expectations

This was a very charming movie that was animated absolutely gorgeously. I very much admired the character designs as well as the set designs and voice direction, all of it pulled off spectacularly. If you have the opportunity to see it in 3-D, it's definitely worth the extra money to do so. If you are a parent who has young children, I would advise that you perhaps take them to see something else, as the movie has some scary moments as well as a little bit of questionable content, however, children above the age of five or six should be delightfully thrilled with some of the more suspenseful moments.

    way creepy

My husband and I saw this in 3D. Its refreshing to see a movie made the old way-stop action. Not computer generated. Great voice overs by Ian McShane with minimal screamy-screetchiness by Dakota Fanning. However...This is NOT a kids movie. It's long and a bit slow, but visually amazing. It got screwier and screwier and then got downright scary. I would not recommend this for any kid under maybe 10-12. I think the 3D was really worth it. I'm not sure if it would have been as intriguing in 2D. Defintely worth the big screen, but see it before you take your kids.

    Coraline 3D

I took the family to see it on my son's 10th birthday and they enjoyed it. The youngest (6 years old) did say she got a little frighten by the little door, but for the most part she loved it. I could do without the 3D FX. Hope there is a 2nd movie.

    Excellent

I have seen Coraline 3 times already. I took my daughter who is 7 on our last trip and she LOVED it! What a great job all those talented animators at Laika did! Make sure you all go and see it! You will not be disappointed.

    Interesting

    by lwinkle

My daughter and I saw Coreline 3D last night. I thought the movie had a very interesting and unique story line. My 8 year old said there were parts that she found "freaky". Overall, we would recommend the movie...the 3D is cool.

    Coraline 3D

This film shows just how far 3D technology has come! The movie's creative writing makes its dark nature somewhat fun. It may be a little scary for children under 10.

    Don't miss Coraline in 3-D

What a wonderful movie, but not for children under 10. There is so much to love, but the burlesque act is for older kids and adults. The viewer I attended with immediately said, "I can't bring my kids to this one!" Her kids are 6 and 8. The 3-D effects were special, and be sure to wait through the credits for even better ones! The voices were perfect for the characters and brought the book to life. I enjoyed it immensely, but it won't suit everyone.

Do not miss this movie. and go to a theater and see it in 3D. The visuals in ths film are amazing and something magical. The story was written with older children in mind but is dark and scary so anyone under ten should not see this film. Because of the intended audience the story lacked something that I can not put my finger on. It seems it could have been a little bit longer to explain a couple of things. It runs 1 hour and 40 min, I think it could have gone ten minutes more and answered some questions.

You will walk away stunned by the visuals and the artistry of the film. Pay attention there is alot going on in the backgrounds and peripherals

Go see it in 3D don't waste the money for it otherwise, and don't wait for DVD.
