When I first saw Confessions, I thought for sure it was going to be one of those Academy movies that everyone would be talking about. Clooney would obviously get a best director nod, Rockwell would be nominated for best actor, and it-boy Kaufman would be the only one to actually take home gold for get his best adapted screenplay. Instead, it came and went with hardly anyone noticing. Bizarre, because it's one of the most sophisticated, fun, inventive, imaginative movies of the 21st century, and ranks as one of my all-time favorites. Rockwell's performance is transformative and insightful; Clooney's direction is energetic, and the screenplay by Charlie Kaufman is enlightening. See this movie.
