    As Advertised...

    by TPJR

Watching trailers and TV spots for this film told you everything you needed to know. It's a "recovered tape" of an eye witness account of a big-*** monster tearing apart New York. If you want to see that, go see the movie! If you don't, stay home. It's that simple. There's no deep plot-line, or hold-your-hand ending, it's just what happens to a couple of kids in a really bad situation. I went to see it just for the effects, but I was very happy with what I saw as a whole. But the greatest part was the sound design. Everything from the smallest detail, to the largest building or bridge collapse was covered brilliantly. It felt like you were seeing and hearing reality. Every part of this was superbly executed, all the way down to the advertising. If you get motion-sickness, it's probably not your cup of tea, otherwise, it's awesome... It's really awesome.

    Cloverfield ROCKS!

I thought this movie was so INCREDIBLE. I went with another couple who hated it, but they loved STEP UP. I think people will be split on this movie...you'll either LOVE it or hate it. It is so intelligent. The cinematography takes some getting used to, but once the action starts, it makes total sense and makes you feel like this really happened and you're witnessing the events. I will be buying this movie and may even see it in the theater again. And I NEVER see a movie in theaters more than once. GO SEE THIS MOVIE. One tip though: stay through the credits. I didn't and found out later that I should have.

    Cloverfield

    by RAV270

Clovefield is one of those movies that you should watch at least once in your life. It stands out from your typical monster movie in its own special ways.
First and most noticable, is the point of view; it doesn't ever feel like your watching a movie, but rather living the movie with the main characters. It's completely shot from a hand camera which gives it a very realistic feeling. To some, it may be a little dizzying, because the camera moves so frantic, so be prepared for some fast paced screen movements.
Another thing that I enjoyed about the movie is the sound. You can almost always hear either gunfire, helicopters, or the monster roaring, making it feel like if you're out on the streets too!
Finally the idea of the story isn't too much out of the ordinary, giant monster attacks town, military fights it, and people struggle to survive it. The acting is so-so, I can't say I've seen any of the actors before, but dont let that stop you from seeing this movie!

    It's was ok....

I wont lie this movie does cause Motion sickness, so be careful. The movie was ok, but i didn't realize that till after i've taken a full dose of Advil to be rid of the massive headache. The movie was extremely slow to start with. I nearly fell asleep in my seat. But once the Monster attacks stuff really hits the fan. The monster in my opinion looks like a giant loogie with legs. The destruction was cool, great effects in it, feels like your there but the cameraing although kinda cool in the beginning but got really annoying by 30 mins in when your head feels like the monster hit you. It would have been nice to have a better background story to the monster, or even a good closure. The end leaves you hanging. But it would be cool if they did a second Cloverfield, but do it from the perspective of the military and the Government. And not have that home movie thing. I do suggest you see it, it isn't the greatest of all time but it's a enjoyable watch.

    ENGROSSING!!!

    by g-movie

This film will remind you a little bit of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, in which events are being recorded by camcorder as it is happening. Much like BLAIR WITCH, you are only a witness to what is considered to be "historical footage". The story is about five people who are trying to evacuate Manhattan after an initial attack that is reminiscent of 9/11. In fact, the first minutes after the attack will give you a possible uneasiness beacuse of the simialrity of panic and sense of total chaos. As time progress, the film maintains a breakneck pace as these people, all of these actors are virtual unknowns but carry the emotions, and terror really well, try to escape with their lives. The digital FX are astounding in the few scenes that show the reason for the calamity on Manhattan (Yes, I am purposely not describing the "thing" so you can see it for yourself). Keep in mind that like BLAIR, there is no hollywood "ending", and there are more questions than answers, but it is well made movie.

    motion sick chupacabra movie

This movie started off very slow and dragged. For a 1 hr 24 min movie, there was way too much unnecessary waste at the beginning of the movie. The party scene at the beginning of the movie could have been shorter in order to save more time for explanation of the chupacabra looking alien monster. If you do go to see the action, take dramamine and have plenty of aspirin or Tylenol available for afterwards. Also, don't miss the meteor at the very end of the movie... keep an eye near the cruise ship. Everyone that thinks that this movie was awesome needs to take a film class. I won't lie, it has potential. Due to too much character building, bad point of view, and not enough explanation of the alien, it won't live up to what it could be... a great sci-fi movie!

    I felt so sick

I saw it on Tuesday. I didn't know what to say at first but thinking back. Is a movie supposed to make you sick in the stomach??!! When it makes you sick, how can you enjoy it?! I missed most of the movie because I was getting a migraine and it was turning my stomach. I couldn't look up at the screen after about 20 minutes. I wanted to walk out so bad. I closed my eyes for the majority of the movie. I understand it is a camcorder effect but it is not right to make me sick while watching a movie!

    HEAD TRAUMA

I recieved severe head trauma from this movie. Why? Because i spent about 20 minutes beating my head against the stairs trying to knock myself out so i wouldn't have to watch any more of the movie... It was my only option, because my friend wouldn't leave with me. She said if she's going to pay 9 dollars to get screwed, she's gonna get screwed for the whole 2 hours.

For a preview on just one of the many terrible aspects of this film, tape a camera to your *** and go jogging for one mile at dusk. review the footage. try and pick out what the hell you just ran past. thats about what its like... but with stupid people all over the place.

    Worth the headache

Despite the overwhelming amount of motion sickness, Cloverfield was a very good movie. The plot was perfect. The filming however detracted alot from it because you have to look away to avoid throwing up. A few still shot scenes could do the movie good.

It had all of the elements to keep you interested in the movie: drama, suspense, romance, comedy, aliens, and large military bombings,

    Cloverfield

    by RobWill

A strange and interesting movie on several fronts. Special effects get top honors here. The actors do a good job with a poor plot and absurd dialogue. The viewing experience was unpleasant due to overly LOUD audio play back. The herky-jerky filming style could make some people nauseous. The giant threat in this movie was very interesting but the little threats didn't seem to fit in. The scenes were very graphic and realistic. My biggest problem with the film was that the lead character (a 20 something business vice-president?) displayed absolutely no intelligence whatsoever. The other members of the tag along group apparently have IQ's of 100; they sure know how to party and suck-up to the youtube crowd though. Science fiction afficianado's will recognize two things: themes and images taken from other flicks (Godzilla, Starship Troopers, Blair Witch, etc.) and unrealistic ways for getting into danger. Go see the film as it will be a reference point for future films.

    Cloverfield sucked!!!

I went into this movie with modest expectations and was at least interested in seeing what all the buzz was, from the blogs online to the internet, Cloverfield was hailed as one of the "sleeper hits of 2008"...and with J.J Abrams doing it it could have been decent. What to my surprise was a wasted 6.00(1.00 for Fandango) to see a amateurish Blair Witch Project/Godzilla/Host crapshot instead. I'am not sure if JJ LOST his skill but this FELICITY could have come up with a better ALIAS than CLOVERFIELD (WTF!!) (1) the person holding the camera needs to go to film school to learn to properly hold a camera because it nearly caused a bad case of vertigo and motion sickness, I mean i can understand the attempt at the first-person style, LEARN TO HOLD THE CAMERA STEADY!!! (2) when everyone learned of Rob and Beth's hookup during the party, it turned into a 8.00 reality TV movie and for that point on a ominous remake of Godzilla and into a real MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, a real STAR WREK :-/

    GREAT!!!!

This movie is great!! I absolutely loved it. I have been seeing a lot of bad reviews for this movie especially criticizing the "motion-sickening" POV. I htink this is what made the movie great...you really get a feel for what is going on. I agree Blair With Project and this movie have similar POV, but this movie far exceeds the quality of Blair Witch. I think also people are used to having the whole movie spoon-fed to them, and expect the most magical hollywood ending. If that is you, then this movie isnt for you. This movie doesnt spoon feed you anything, in fact, it makes you think and fill in the blanks based on the information given. For some, this may be tiring, but for me I LOVE thinking about the movie. If you pay attention to the movie and footage closely, you will know exactly what is going on save maybe where EXACTLY where the monster came from... ITS A GREAT MOVIE

    ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***

The ending isnt like a normal hollywood movie, which is wonderful i think!!!

Think of it like a scenario...

I didn't truly view this as a movie in the traditional sense, more like a scenario of what might happen were we to actually be attacked by some giant creature. The acting left a little to be desired and I have never been so happen to see a character die as I was the best friend behind the camera but I could not help but become engrossed in the story. Many people have complained about the ending but I found the lack of explanation to be refreshing. All in all I found Cloverfield an enjoyable flick.

    Cloverfield was awesome

Alot of people won't like the way this movie was filmed however, I thought it was an excellent means of keeping your attention. The CGI was very good and the acting was above average. I especially liked the guy holding the camera as he added some levity to the whole film.
The ending left alot to be desired however, I guess that's what sequels are for. That and I missed the little surprise right at the end before the credits.

    Just plain WACK

This movie wasn't very good. You almost get sea sick watching it. If I knew that the entire film was through a video camera i would not have wanted to see it. Did anyone get a very clear look at the monster or know where it came from.
