What a shame Cloud Atlas didn't do well in North America. What a fantastic film! Go out and watch it while you still can. Given its scale, budget ... flop, there may not be another like it for a long time - at least not from a US studio, and let's face it, only US studios spend $100 million on movies.
There is never a point when you are scratching your head. It has great pace and you're constantly glued to the plot. Definitely one of the best films of the year!!

So other than having actors play different parts, which didn't advance the story or concept, this was not a movie about cosmic connections. Just six stories and not necessarily that interesting.

I loved this movie, though right off the bat i can tell you it won't be everyone's cup of tea. It is long, unconventional, demands your attention and even your desire to let yourself immerse yourself in a different kind of film and narrative.
It has a great cast, all of whom show how versatile they can be in the many roles they play.
I guess I feel like if you are intrigued, if it looks interesting to you, go see it. It is visually brilliant, at times funny, sad, thrilling and heartfelt. It has a thread running through it that is an important message to hear.
It isn't a perfect achievement by any means, but it is worth the investment in time and money. It is high and above so many of the repeat, re-do, rehashed and sequel-laden films out there.
I know this is a crap review, but who cares!? The movie hit me enough that I wanted to write this in hopes others will see it.

I enjoyed the show more than I thought I would. Much of it is very entertaining. But after 2 hours I found my patience waning. I went with someone that had read the book and she enjoyed both - so maybe reading the book ahead of time is a good idea.

“Cloud Atlas” was a unique film that creatively weaved concepts of reincarnation into a message of how we are connected to one another. I am thankful for all of the blessings that I have in my life (including my family members and friends). However, watching this movie reminded me why I would prefer for my current lifetime to be my last lifetime on earth (if reincarnation actually exists). Yes, I know that “Cloud Atlas” is only a great entertainment movie. It is just that some of the future scenarios that were depicted were quite different from my vision of a future Utopian society.
Tom Hanks and Halle Berry cleverly play the powerful roles of spirits who become drawn together in both 1970’s California and in some post Apocalypse world of the future. There were more actors and actresses that did a great job with the interwoven past and future life stories crafted together. “Cloud Atlas” is a film for those who enjoy movies with spiritual themes.
