Going to Cloud Atlas is like waking in a thick forest; you can see the trees - but you cannot begin to understand the forest as a whole until after you leave it; only then can you see the depth and shape of it. The primary concepts & details are very subtly shown. If you see this movie, you should be prepared to see it 2-3 times; only then will you know what you're seeing, and what to watch for. That's a lot to expect of movie-viewers. I didn't read the book, but to me this is a story about life's continuum, reincarnation & the nature of the soul: a murderous thief evolves into a reluctant hero; a courageous women remains courageous in each reincarnation.. etc. I think I saw the gem-buttons from a waste coat end on a necklace hundreds of years later. (?) The message I got; we are all connected, and if you live your life 'to make a difference,' that difference can ripple into the future, far beyond your life. GO - but ONLY if you can put the time into thinking about it

Cloud Atlas

I went in expecting a sumptuous sight for the eyes and something thought provoking and was not disappointed. Great performances all around by a great cast each doing multiple roles. Some (SPOILER ALERT) like Hugo Weaving were precious. I have not read the book on which the movie was based, but I have already decided to look into it as well as the music score. The multiplex cinema we went to had the film in a small theatre and it was packed. I'm glad I used Fandango to purchase tickets in advance.

Kinda slow...don't go if you're tired.

Unique story line, good acting, love how they intertwine, but too slow in parts. I almost wish it didn't intertwine so we could see all of one story then another. Stay for the credits...very cool reveal of who played what characters that will surprise you. :)

Cloud Atlas: Avoid it like Hurricane Sandy!!!!

Cloud Atlas: Talk about "Bait and Switch"! While those behind production of this movie and their adoring critics claim it's a new and daring look at life (past, present and future) with probing questions about karma and reincarnation, don't believe it for a second!!! The only question I (and most of those leaving the theater near me) wanted to know the answer to was: 'How can I ever recover those three hours out of my life?' Virtually the entire "plot" (and using that term loosely) was nothing more than rehashed, cut and paste snippets from successful films including: Blade Runner, Star Wars, Soylent Green (and they had the gall to mention it in one of the scenes!), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Cocoon, Amazing Grace, Silkwood, The China Syndrome, Brokeback Mountain, with a bit of Braveheart thrown in the mix. To say this movie was bad, would be a complete understatement. Why can't mainstream Hollywood treat their audience with the intelligence of a drama like, "Breaking Bad?"

I wanted to be there ... and I felt like I was! Didn't realize it was 3 hours long til I arrived to this website to add my positive rating The book didn't get such good reviews, but this movie is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The casting, acting, cinematography, music, ... are superb! If the idea of reincarnation finds you fearful, and believe me when I say I am 100% Christian, look beyond your fear and just understand how we are all connected. Think why we were put on this earth, why we were born into the families we were, how our spirit is different than our body/personality/values. Also in this movie is a "Stick it to da' man!" which is always good fodder. I say GO GO GO! Can't wait for the DVD!!!!
