It took energy to follow the shifts in time and story, and to piece together which relationships may have related to previous ones, but it was well worth the effort. Visually stunning. Sure there was some pontification but simple messages are more powerful than we think. Will see it again.

A Book adaptation gone wrong!

A confusing train wreck with the three story lines they attempt to wrap together unsuccessfully. The ending was not good enough to warrant the exhausting cuts back and forth through space time in order to justify itself. This story was just too complex to be adapted to a two hour movie and it shows that there was no way in hell they could input all the content necessary to make this movie make any sense whatsoever. The untamed post apocolyptic speak of "thems the smarts" just added to the confustion as you attempt to translate what they are saying every 15 minutes. They thought it would be cerebral but its just tiresome and annoying. Tom Hanks is a brilliant actor, but he's no Nutty Professor. Also, the underlying political themes are: being gay is wonderful, smoking pot is cool, and oil companies and consumerism is evil.

Cloud Atlas - a haunting experience

I loved this movie. I loved the book. This movie is audacious in scope and depth. It really is too much for the average human to take in in one sitting. I plan to see it at least 3 more times. The acting is top rate; the action sequences are breathtaking, but most of all I enjoyed the world and characters portrayed in an unsentimental look at humanity and human nature. If you can integrate this movie you will grow as a human being. So grateful for this experience.

At first you may be thinking "what have I gotten myself into", but as it picks up and you start to realize what is happening, you let yourself get into it and by the end I was on the edge of my seat and also crying. The message buried in this film is strong and powerful. If you go to this movie for action or drama or to try and make it be a blockbuster epic, you won't like it. If you to into it realizing there is a complicated story here from an epic book that is almost impossible to turn into a movie, but that has a strong message about life, love, why we might all be here and where we go after, then I think you'll love it as I did. I'm still trying to remember many of the quotes dropped in the film. The message is powerful and brilliant and how I believe live and love really work. I will even go sit through all 3 hours of it again to pick up things I missed.
