    Chinese ET

    by Danny Saigon

I'm into Stephen Chow. He had me at Kung Fu Hustle and this has got the same off-kilter sense of humor. I loved the father son interaction and the effects added to the story, as opposed to overwhelming it. Don't quite understand the language in the midst of this family movie, but at least now I know what BS sounds like in Mandarin. I laughed alot at the boys plight. I guess bathroom humor works in all cultures. This is one I recommend, would see again, and will buy when the Blu-ray comes out.

    CJ7

A truly delightful children's story. Could be characterized as a Chinese E.T., but the movie is so fresh that it doesn't seem like a film you've ever seen before. Magnificent acting by the boy hero. Uplifting dynamics between father and son. A movie you can take your grade-schooler to without worrying about unsavory stuff. Probably not for children under eight or nine because of some tragedy in the movie (without giving away the plot here).

    Short and Sweet

I for one am in love with this movie... if you enjoyed Kung-Fu Hustle or Shaolin Soccer along with other films like E.T. than this movie is a must. Who cares if it's all subtitles!! Read a little!!! This movie is completely worth it.

    CJ7

    by Lizerne Guiting

Unless you're a die-hard fan of Stephen Chow, you might find this movie way off from his usual fare. This is completely different from his "Shaolin Soccer" and "Kung Fu Hustle"--both of which I liked. "CJ7" is more for kids rather than adults. The CG animation is pretty good, but not seamless. There's a lot of slapstick, so watch this with a bunch of goofy friends who enjoy that stuff, otherwise you'll be enduring some awkward moments of silence.

Another difference from Chow's last films is that he's not really the star of "CJ7." We see more of the kid, who is cute and funny in his own way. If you're expecting to see more of Chow, you'll be disappointed. Awkward as it may be, there's a really touching moment onscreen. I cried my eyes out. It might even be too intense for younger ones.
