Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS Still Shines Brightly
This Charlie Chaplin silent masterpiece ( made after the evolution of "the talkies" ) is certainly a prime example of prime melodramatic storytelling with a comical edge. Portraying his famous Little Tramp character, Charlie is instantly smitten by a blind flower vendor and with the help of a very fickle millionaire is given the money to give to her for an operation to restore her sight. Alternately hilarious and heartwarming. simple and profound this movie will leave not only thoroughly entertained but feeling incredibly good about the human condition. The poignant fade out is as marvelously touching as anything ever filmed. A must-see movie!!
