My Christmas present from my parents and boyfriend was taking me to see this movie, as they know that I have always wanted to see anything that has to do with Cirque Du Soleil. The 3D was overwhelmingly beautiful. Seeing this in theaters just makes me want to see a LIVE show in person SO much more!! I love the dramatic side as well as the humorous side. They balance each other out better than any feature film I've ever seen. It's great for people of any age, which not many movies these days offer that. I will definitely be waiting at the movie store to buy this on DVD!

A sampler of Cirque

You do not have to have seen any other Cirque shows to enjoy the movie, but if you have seen any I think you may enjoy the movie more. For me,too many of the Cirque de Soleil shows are very impressive circus shows. It's shows like Ka that I like the most because of the story line and the action around it. In Worlds Away there is a story that links the action and gives it a goal. Parts of various shows are woven around the central story line. These are performed on the specialized stages built for the various shows. One of the significant differences between viewing the movie and being in the audience at the various shows is that in the movie you get camera perspectives you do not get in the auditorium of the show--close-ups and views from above. But, from the auditorium the size of things and the control of sound in the room (as in Ka) are not reproduced in the movie. The duet, between the girl and the Aerialist, at the end with the forest scene from Ka was very moving.

Not child friendly

We took our 6 & 7 year old kids and they were frightened by some of the imagery (think, Drama like 'Alice In Wonderland'). Of course they may have been set off initially by some of the scary previews. But my wife and I enjoyed it. My parents, who have been to a couple of live Circ performances said that this is a great and inexpensive way to experience many of the different circ shows.

They've Done Better

Too much focus on costumes and pageantry and not enough of the physical stunts (for lack of a better word) that are awe-inspiring and so much fun to watch. Still worth seeing but their Dralion production has many more "wow" moments. I prefer a straight taping of one of their shows as opposed to this compilation.

Worth seeing but a different animal from live Cirque altogether

Uses elements and magic from many Cirque shows to weave a beautiful narrative. If you haven't seen a Cirque show, this is an inexpensive way to experience some of Cirque's magic. I've seen several Cirque shows and I'll outline what I liked and disliked about the movie: Liked: The ability to see details and perspectives missing from the audience of a live Cirque show. The ability to zoom over and through the action. Much more sense of individual character and performance detail. Disliked: Less flow. Part of the Cirque magic is the ability to experience the flow of incredible performances. There were many times when the camera cuts pulled me away from something I wanted to see or otherwise interrupted the flow. Not enough big picture: The focus on individual and tight shots, deprived me of one of the things I love best about Cirque: the feeling of being overwhelmed at the totality and collective artistry of the troop on stage. Net: Worth seeing!
