    chimpanzee was great

    by drlou71

very educational and heart-warming. Tim Allen as the narrator was fantastic, especially when he was talking about "tools". My kids loved it (3.5 and 6.5 y/o).

    Special Film

It is unbelievable when you see what these guys go through to film these scenes. Additionally, the death of Oscar's mother (kind of like in Nemo) was handled in such a manner that younger kids would not be upset ... and everyone will be fascinated by the photography, and the story.

healthy alternative to the animated cartoons

When I walked in the theater last night with my granddaughter and friend, there was hardly anyone in the theater. I wondered; 'Where are all the people?' The sound in the theater was a little lower than normal during so I was a little disappointed because there is a specific level it should be to create 'waves', but never the less, we enjoyed the video part. When the movie finally began the very first thing I noticed was the great movement; [Cinematography]. The Elapsed Time segments were unbelievable. It was very easy to be captivated into the close-ups of the faces of the animals, the water dripping on leaves, the army ants scurrying about in the morning sun, the tropical rainstorms and of course the emotional joy and pain you felt from the family unit of the chimps. The pace of the movie was the only thing I was concerned about whether or not my 5 year old would patiently sit through, but I was pleasantly surprised to see her enjoying a healthy alternative to the animated cartoons.

Don't sugar coat it, kid. Give it to me straight....

    by xk8

I'm happy I saw this movie but it's styled for little kids. The (true) story is wonderful but Disney has added plenty of sugar to satisfy the kiddie audience taste. I wish there were an adult version available that showed a bit more of the grit (ala, March of the Penguins)...which would serve to enhance the wonder of the miracle that happens. I don't think Disney has ever lived down killing Bambi's mother so they really sanitized this one (even still, I heard more than a few children sniffling in the audience, and who's to say some of those weren't adults). Tim Allen is the perfect narrator with some funny allusions to Tool Time, however, I wish sometimes he would just stop talking and let the footage run longer and speak for itself. The star of the movie is, of course, Oscar, the heart-stealing baby chimp...you'll want to put him in your pocket and take him home. Watch all the way through the credits...more great footage, plus a gentle nudge to get involved with primate conservation.

    Chimpanzee

My husband & I both loved it. Poignant! Dramatic! Relatable! It was told in a narrative way, with a plot and the kind of comments kids could relate to. However, we felt the film had levels and one could related to it on the appropriate level. Lots of incredible cinematography and information there for the taking. The many children in the theater were enraptured and didn't seem to lose focus throughout. The more violent scenes were done off camera---no worries. Don't leave right away- there is a segment after the story ends where they discuss the amazing experience of filming the movie.

Good for kids, they should say however that mom is killed by a panther

This part of the movie were kind of shockers. It took my 8 year old by surprise and it kind of made her sad for the remainder of the movie. Otherwise, good for kids.

An Awesome, Touching Visit with Chimpanzees

    by jzactor

Chimpanzee is truly awesome and truly touching as we follow the life of Oscar, a very young Chimp. It involves the trials, tribulations and learning experience Oscar is on which is so almost human it is remarkable. The photography and film crew did an amazing job being so close to the chimps and placing the viewer among them. It is truly remarklable. I did not like Tim Allen's narration, to be honest. It took away from the experience for me. It was his overdone tone & the script, geared for the very young, Other than that, it is a great film and I left in awe, wonder, and gratitude for these amazingly intelligent creatures who display such care for each other and a sense of community and belonging that we humans could learn from and practice more. Kudos to the film crew, make sure you stay thru the credits to see what the film crew went thru. This is a wonderful film for all ages. I left with appreciation and admiration for these amazing and intelligent creatures.

    Heart Warming

I would rate this a "Must Go" but I can see why it isn't for everyone. It is my first Disney Nature movie but it won't be my last. The narration was great as it helped the audience understand what was going on but it wasn't overkill. Oscar and his family were so cute and it kept my attention and I overall LOVED it. However, I did sob a great deal but I think that's just because of how attached I was to the movie and the tribe. This isn't all laughs and smiles but I can appreciate a pretty realistic view of what a day in the life of a chimp is!

    Chimpanzee

Very good movie, held my attention throughout. Took my three grandchildren, good for the 8 year old but the 6 and 4 year olds got a little bored.

this movie was awesome if you love nature shows

The only thing I wasn't the biggest fan of was Tim Allen being the narrator. I felt like they could have found someone better, but otherwise this movie was an amazing documentary of the life of chimpanzees.

Beautiful but not for young kids

This movie was right up my alley. It played just like the National Geographic series with beautiful cinematography and insider POVs. Although no violence is shown, my older daughter (nearly 6) was very emotional about the death of the mother chimp. My nearly 4 year old had a hard time following the story, but she really enjoyed just watching the chimps in action. This is a good movie, but it's content is not really for young kids.

    CHIMPANZEE

This is a wonderful story. It's loving and caring in a way that is rare in the jungle. The cinematography is phenomenal. It's a beautiful story of the hardships and the love of family. Little Oscar steals the show for sure; but you have to feel admiration for Freddie. Children will love this one for sure. There are no graphic kill scenes; but does tell you that Chimpanzees do eat monkeys. Tim Allen narrates this nature film and it did take me a few minutes to adjust to his voice and not relate it to his tool man show. It was refreshing to watch a movie with no swearing, nudity, people killing each other and greed etc. You can sit back, relax and be treated to as I said earlier A WONDERFUL film.

    Chimpanzee

    by anksmom

I would recommend this as something you would watch at home as an educational movie. The graphics were good even though a portion of it was in a different TV show that I had just watched the night before.

It wasn't worth the evening admission price for myself and daughter.
