  Rupert Friend Is Someone to Watch in the Coming Years

  For those of you who know the Collette stories this movie was based on, Cheri, the part played by Rupert Friend, is a rather shallow, unsympathetic character who realizes too late how much he had once loved someone.
  
  With any other actor, this part could have been played two dimensional. In fact, if the character of Cheri was not more fleshed out, the complete premise of why the Michelle Pfeiffer character would have fallen in love with him in the first place would not have worked.
  
  As it stands, because of Rupert's performance and the depth and poignancy he brought to his character, the movie was a triumph. A bittersweet love story, brilliantly acted and a story for the ages.

  I really liked this beautiful, period piece, set in Paris around 1910. Michelle Peiffer looked fantastic and did a great job of acting, as did Kathy Bates. The love story, about an aging courtesan and her much younger lover, was bittersweet. All the production values (costumes, sets, scenery) were fabulous. I enjoyed it very much.

  Loved it!

  This is a great story with superb sets and costumes. Actors are fantastic, most especially Cathy Bates. Really enjoyed this.

  Beautiful movie very enjoyable

  Loved everything about this lush movie. Michelle was so good and so was Kathy Bates. The scenery was lush, the music was absolutely beautiful and It was a beautiful love story and I highly recommend it. Maybe more of a woman's pic but some men would appreciate the beauty of it.

  Best Movie I've seen This Summer

  Seriously the best movie I've seen this summer. The characters are beautiful and the movie follows the book so closely, it's actually what I had pictured in my mind. You will not be disappointed seeing this movie. Cheri is a love story in the time of upper class prostitutes who had lovers that gave them elegant gifts. Lea is now coming to the age of retirement but finds herself another last lover in the form of Cheri a.k.a. Fred. Simply gorgeous.

  I am shocked that Cheri has not received rave reviews. It is a fantastic love story, brilliantly directed by one of my favorite directors, Stephen Frears. The costuming and cinematography are academy award level. Kathy Bates's performance alone is great enough to cause one to see the movie and Michele Pfeiffer was brilliantly cast. Too many people write this off as a "cougar" story when in fact it is a love story between an older woman and a younger man. I highly recommend that you see this movie.

  Wonderful

  Michelle Pfeiffer and Kathy Bates did a wonderful job. The story was interesting, older but beautiful woman hooked up with a younger very naive guy. A tragic love story. Worth seeing.
