    Thoroughly Entertaining, Warm and Inspiring.

This is an example of one of those rare occasions when everything comes together just right in a film, producing one really good show. It's a success formula corporate Hollywood spends hundreds of millions dollars annually trying to capture, but proof positive that money alone can't buy what a good old fashioned story combined with screen talent and just a touch of creativity can. No big budget extravaganza here, but every bit as entertaining and a lot more genuine than about 95 percent of the movies exhibited on domestic screens so far this year (and I?ve seen hundreds…it?s what I do.) If you're looking for a good film, one that distracts you from the everyday and when it's over, actually leaves you feeling better than you did when you came in, then this is it. This film is suitable for everyone, although the little guys and gals probably wouldn't be interested. Otherwise, it's worth every cent of the ticket price. See it. You won't be disappointed.

"Chasing Mavericks" Is Very Well Done - A Must-See

We enjoyed "Chasing Mavericks" very much and highly recommend it. Good acting (love everything that Gerard Butler does!), Jonny Weston - actually all actors and actresses did a superb job! The surfing was exciting and the Mavericks were awesome! Thanks, all, for a very entertaining movie about an young man who lived largely.

    Chasing Maverick's

While Frosty and his friends were not REALLY the 1st 4 to find Mavericks (it used to be called Ross's cove in the 70's) they were certainly the more well known of the 1st generation of surfers. I'm glad Jeff Clark was given props in the credits. The acting was really good and the script was well written. We saw it at the IMAX and you could really feel the rip of the waves and the crash when they came down. Well done. There were four of us and we really loved it.

    Chasing Mavericks

I took the girls, my 10 yr old daughter and one of her bfs to see this yesterday! We all enjoyed it, both inspirational and sad! The actors did a wonderful job, moved me to tears! I would recommend for 10 and up, though not inappropriate for under.

    NoCAL vs SoCal

    by bcarmic

As a lifelong surfer, I LOVED this film. What was great about it was the fact that both leads WERE surfers, unless head replacement are that much improved in Hollywood. I LOVED this film because it respected surfing the sport and the life style. It was authentic as the territorial imperatives, the bad *** surf gangs, the young kid surfer are just archetypes in American surfing. And DP Bill Pope of Matrix fame and a DP that I've worked with as a director was superb. The aerial unit was fantastic. Same for the water units with the world of in water camera people hitting high notes for cinematography. I just am STOKED about Chasing Mavericks because Jay's story was so righteously told. RIP Jay. You and your Board will NEVER be forgotten. Aloha, Bob Carmichael.

    A worthy afternoon diversion

It's a surf story, it's a teen story, it's a kid over-comes his obstacles story. Ve4y good.Everyone has a hard luck story and this one was not overplayed. Jay - the lad character actually never whimpers about his losses. This would be a great new trend in America. Instead he has a goal and he woks to achieve it. Nothing is handed to him - he earns it. Go Jay! If "Eddie would go," and you should "live like Jay." then I am not too sure what the message is...maybe it's YOLO all over again. Anyways it was fun. Santa Cruz is a great movie location.

    Chasing Mavericks

Excellent movie! QUESTION FOR MAVERICKS LOCALS Hi there. Did anybody notice when Jay was walking down the cliffs to the beach the fenced off bldg on cliffs that looked like and observitory??? to the best of my knowledge back in the 70;s that bldg was not there. Is there a bldg on the cliffs today that looks like an observatory, or was that scene shot somewhere else? Thanks, Kim

    Chasing Mavericks

Very Good Movie. They did a good job with including original footage and in selecting the actors who portrayed each character, especially Jay and Frosty. I loved seeing the real Mavericks crew, like Peter Mel, and locals of the area. Glad we saw it on the big screen.

    Run to see Chasing Mavericks

Gerard Buter would be enough of a reason to see it, but this movie is based on the true story of deceased surfer Jay Moriarty. If you aren't familiar with Mavericks in Half Moon Bay, California, or even if you are, the movie shows breathtaking footage of NorCal 's mountainous and most dangerous surf spot. The theater was filled with surfers and surf families; this is a movie you will enjoy with friends or your children.

    Awesome movie!

    by lbwoods

This is a must see movie! Incredible cinematography! A true, touching story about a man, Frosty Hesson, (Gerard Butler) and a teenager, Jay Moriarity, (Jonny Weston) who connect way more than on a wave! A clean story (no sex, profanity, etc) that should appeal to all audiences. Again, Gerard Butler has shown his great passion for becoming his character which almost took his life while filming. The movie also involves local veteran surfers which made this movie very authentic. I love the scenery along the northern California coast, the history of Mavericks and the story it tells. Well done!

    Chasing Mavericks Review

    by

I went to see Chasing Mavericks 2 weeks ago with my cousin. I enjoyed it very much. I thought it was inspiring and sad. I happen to think Gerard Butler is a very good actor. I love his movies. I also thought Abagail Spencer was fantastic in this. My cousin, who just came along for the ride said that she would see it again. It's sad that after 2 weeks this movie is not playing anymore. Please check out this movie when it comes out on DVD.

Awesome surfing footage - Terrific Performances!

    by hobbes3

Set in the world of big wave surfing with some of the most incredible footage of the sport ever filmed, Chasing Mavericks is really a movie about relationships. Father/son certainly, but also how that particular "father-son" combo impacts the lives of the other people around them as well. It packs an emotional wallop. Even knowing the inevitable outcome, I was moved. I don't get the cliche argument used by most critics. Is it cliche if it's true? The cast is all around good. Butler is fantastic as Frosty. Jonny Weston is terrific as wide-eyed, open-hearted Jay.
