Carrie Not So Scary

This reboot of Carrie is a modern take on the original novel with a lot of material from the first movie thrown in. The main actors do a decent job, but some of the supporting cast were a little painful to watch. Carrie is mostly faithful to the book throughout most of the movie. For the climax through the conclusion, It decides to follow in the footsteps of the previous movie as opposed to staying true to the novel. That's a shame as the original story hasn't been faithfully told as of yet. Not presenting the anti bullying message found in Stephen King's Carrie is a very relevant missed opportunity. With modern technology, Carrie could easily have reproduced the grander scale climax of the novel instead of the watered down version presented in this movie. If you want to see a "horror" movie this Halloween, Carrie is the only fresh face this year. There's nothing during or after the credits If you like my reviews, add me as a friend. I'll add you make.

I had fun, more true to the book.

I didn't like the original *gasp!* but I went with my teen last night because she's a huge Chloe fan. I was a little worried about content, but having read the book I knew what to expect and there weren't any surprises in that regard. It's a beautifully shot film, that does drag in a few places, but so did the original. The actors do a good job at coming off as genuine most of the time, but Chloe is always pretty whereas Sissy was always painful to watch. Overall, it's the same premise but a different movie with a much more satisfying ending.

Although the special effects were cool - the originally is definitely better. It was actually kind of boring. I think producers should've capitalized on the book version and really blow the movie out of the box; however they choose to do a modern watered down version of the original. I was so disappointed I went home and watch the original. With that said, stop re-making classic horrors unless it can be improved ...... just stop!

I'm not a big fan of remakes but this one I am. The acting was excellent. The build-up was awesome! They really did a fantastic job with Carrie!

Not a good horror movie

Horror is a director's genre more than any other and Kimberly Pierce was clearly a very bad fit for this material. She gets strong performances from her entire cast but approaches the material as if it were Boys Don't Cry 2, turning what should be a scary horror movie into a sad teen drama instead. The famous bloody prom bloodbath at the end doesn't even feel like it belongs to the same movie as what came before, which has been turned into a story of a lonely teen who finds empowerment in her telekinetic gift. Since this version of Carrie is noticeably prettier than previous incarnations and also quite a bit less pathetic, it's much harder to believe that no boys at school would notice her or that she would completely lose control at the prom and kill everyone. The prom scene is the only point where Carrie actually feels like a horror movie but director Kimberly Pierce seems completely disinterested and lets the special effects do everything. I couldn't recommend this.
