What a pleasure to be able to see an Opera from the Met. If you have never had the opportunity to see an Opera -- this is your opportunity. The SETS were amazing --- only from the Met. Carmen was strong and sexy. Don jose had beautiful moments in his aria and nice compliment to Carmen. Alot of very nice acting too. There was alot of movement, dance and very sexy compared with all other Carmen's I have scene before. If I were there live for the performance - I wouldnt have been this close to the performers. The music is familiar and intoxicating. Plus its nice to see some of the behind the scenes look at the set and musicians. Always love hearing the harpist along with other musicians in the third act (I think) in the Entrance. Never gets old.

This was a very powerful performance. Two things bothered me however. The dances at the beginning of acts ! &3 although pretty were out of line and did not belong. Second, Carmen, doing the Gypsy dance in act 2 did not perform with castanets. The castanets enhance the dance. There was a touch of castanets in the background, but barely discernible.

An absolutely stellar production. Check out Tommasini's 1/2/10 review in the NY Times for insight about what made it so good. I won't forget it! Bill
