Elegant, very European, just unforgetable...

One of the best performances I have seen through Met in HD; the choice of singers/actors was superb, staging unusual and allowing close-ups to bring great experience closer.

Too bad for those who did not soak in the performance!

Outstanding performance! However, the speakers in the theatre were terrible during the first two acts. The management tried to fix them during intermission and had some success, however the poor sound quality was very disappointing.

CARMEN at Loew's Kips Bay

The Met's 2010 CARMEN with the original cast may have brought together the greatest production and the greatest singers alive for their roles in one astounding musical experience. It is a triumph and I was eager to see it for the third time in Live in HD from the Met. As usual, the Met's digital HD recording was fabulous, revealing aspects of the score and the acting that no one could have seen live in the theater. The problem -- and it was a huge problem -- is the sound system in Theater 5 at Loew's Kips Bay. It would have been bad under any circumstances, but in light of this CARMEN it was a disaster and a sacrilege. The sound was too bright and too loud; the highest pitches rattled the speakers; the lower registers were muffled; and the voices were so far in front of the orchestra as to betray entirely Bizet's dazzling interchange of musical ideas. Compare the sound at the Ziegfield on West 53rd St and you'll hear what I mean. Really disgraceful.

the Met HD Carmen

This opera with my favorite tenor, Roberto Alagna, was terrific. Loved the action, fast paced story line. Carmen didn't have those show stopper duets, but it was still wonderfully preformed. If your an Opera fun, I say GO
