    Excellent

    by SABA253

The movie Caramel had a European flare to it, in the direction and the artistic expression. Its style was definitely not American. It exposed the Lebanese culture and in a positive way and yet was critical of the culture in an intelligent way as well. I liked it because it did not make moral judgments, instead, it showed what is and made you make up your mind about what you think should be. The moral of the story, I think, is that even though a bit of lying may be necessary, but most people are unhappy because they are constantly lying to themselves. This is sad but true in all cultures and despite all the religions. The music was nice, the actors were good and the movie showed emotions cinamaticaly and not always just by dialog, which was great to see. Overall, it was a good experience!

    Caramel

A great movie. The characters were rich and diverse. I wanted more. I have been to Lebanon a few times and was married there. My loving sister in law used the sugar hair removal on me for my wedding, it left bruises and was painful. I hear it gets better. I still married her brother and love the wonderful culture of the Lebanese people. Thanks for the film. I am still smiling about it.

    Sweet Performance

This was a thoroughly enjoyable movie from start to end. It is set in an old neighborhood in Beirut, and follows the love lives and drama of five women. The movie, which shows the warmth of the human touch, and the theraputic qualities of pampering, fitingly takes place in a beauty salon. And though no character comes out of the salon the same as when they entered, the movie leaves the viewer speculating as to what course each character took afterwards.

    Good, interesting movie

I write this review as a person who has never been to Lebanon, nor do I speak Arabic or French. With those caveats out of the way: I found this movie to be quite interesting and entertaining. Very much a woman's movie in the sense that all the characters except one possibly two are women; the writer was a woman, and the director is a woman. The insights into life in current day Beirut were quite interesting. I cared about the characters and I thought the portrayals were excellent - especially the main character and the older woman who is terrified at the prospect of aging. There is also sort of an impish thread of humor winding its way through much of the movie. Recommended.

    CARAMEL

As an Arab-American I enjoyed the movie very much. I understand the arabic language and for those who do not, they will understand it as well. I enjoyed the different lives of these women. It is nice to see that no matter what culture you are from women all over the world deal with the same issues. The women were whitty and adorable. Most women will be able to relate to at least one of these women which makes this movie real. thank you for bringing this movie and sharing it with us in the United States. I will see any movie this producer makes. Thank You.....

    Caramel

'Caramel' was the best Lebanese movie I have ever seen. Not only was the acting great - especially Lili - but the fact that there were underlying messages in it, make 'Caramel' a success in my books. The ability to show what different types of Lebanese women experience, and still be entertaining, make Ms. Labaki a winner.

Great film to see with your girlfriends, leave the guys home. This was a breath of fresh air compared to all these science fictions, horrors or silly comedies that are being shown in the movies
