Canvas is not a DaVinci but quite possibly a Jackson Pollock.
Okay, it might not be flashy, but it is a deeply moving story that engages the viewer with a sentisive and empathic perpective of mental illness. If you haven't been exposed to the humanity of the concept of "the mentally ill," this movie will give you "insight." It won't be as highly celebbrated as "A Beautiful Mind," or "One Flew Over the Cokoos Nest," but it is less "Hollywood," and more reality based. I do feel the director and the writer would have focused more on the schizophrenic mother, her time in the hospital, her treatment with the psychiatrist, etc, than spending so much time on the son. All in all, if you want to grow a little this Fall, watch "Canvas," and gain some insight into an illness that if it won't effect you directly, will in all probablility, touch someone you know.
