We took our 9 year old son to this, and although it was occasionally slow, he sat through it all and talked about it on the ride home. Great story, and it felt like a documentary only at the beginning; the students grab your attention and you are hooked.

These kids are absolutely inspiring! This is real life, folks -- not "kid grows up on wrong side of tracks and magically does great." These kids grow up in Brooklyn with very little and they find the game of chess. The game of chess transforms their lives but it is thanks to their hard work and their dedication -- as a club -- that they "magically" do great. Great role models for kids everywhere, and a fabulous story for parents as well. MUST SEE DOCUMENTARY!

You will enjoy this even if you are not a chess player.

This was an excellent movie showing what can be done in our schools with teachers and adults that care. The lessons these kids learn while competing in Chess Tournaments are life lessons that will stay with them the rest of their lives.
