it was an ok movie. enjoyable, some action, good cast (nice to see Zeta Jones back) and it will be an enjoyable flick. but kind of predictable.

I thought this movie (the storyline) was good, although a little confusing in spots. I appreciated that it was done well, without detailed graphics being done in most of the shootem-ups.

My husband and I just got back from watching the matinee viewing of Broken City. Though we somewhat enjoyed it while watching, I think perhaps it was because we were anticipating the movie developing into more than it was.
It is a story told a hundred times before with characters seen in countless movies. Wahlberg is a far better actor than we saw in this movie. I was unimpressed albeit mainly due to the boring character he played. Zeta-Jones' character could have been played by any actress. Neither her level of talent nor her exquisite beauty was required for her character to be adequately portrayed. Her talent was wasted. Crowe was totally unbelievable, perhaps due mostly to the ridiculous haircut his makeup artist decided was right for him. (No man with that haircut would EVER be elected mayor of ANY city. lol) Pepper. a highly underrated actor, stands alone as the only exceptional performance in the movie. Too bad he didn't have a bigger role.
Wait for the DVD.

Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe put on an awesome performance in this suspenseful thriller. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story and definitely label this movie as a "go see"!!!

Russell Crowe, sporting the banged “Nero” look, plays the slimy, mendacious, feckless Mayor of New York City, running for re-election; it will take years to erase Crowe’s insipid performance in “Les Miserables” ; gone is the grit of “John Nash” in “A Beautiful Mind”, poignancy of “James Braddock” in “Cinderella Man” or the mettle, dignity of “The Gladiator”. Disguising his Australian accent with a tainted, New Jersey dialect, he squeezes the maximum sleaziness out of his untoward character...
The Mayor matches wits with the police commissioner; Jeffrey Wright gives a scintillating performance; the screen simmers with his presence; unfortunately their moments together are too infrequent...
TWO & 1/2 STARS!!
