I've seen American Idiot several times and Broadway Idiot is a great, informative movie about the show. I couldn't stop smiling the entire time. If you liked American Idiot, you'll love Broadway Idiot!

If you ever saw American Idiot on Broadway, this will bring back a lot of good memories . . . if you are a fan of Green Day, it will help you see them in a different light . . . but if you fit into neither category, this is still a great documentary about the creative process. I loved it!

I've listened to Green Day since I was in 8th grade and I was in my 20's when American Idiot came out. The album really got what I was feeling (being upset with the administration at the time, plus being yet another kid who grew up in the suburbs wanting to get out). When it was announced that the album was then going to be a show, I was excited that there would be a visual representation to show how tons of other kids-to-adults felt.
That all being said, I'm not sure how you're going to receive this movie if you're not interested in any of these subjects. It does a good job showing the thoughts of Billy Joe, some cast / creative team members, but I wanted to hear from Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool too. Then I realized that the title refers to Billy Joe himself ~ it's his journey, and he's the "Broadway Idiot". I was lucky enough to see the show (my first month living in NYC), and watching this doc got me pumped all over again for change. Hopefully, it will do the same for you.

If you're a fan of Greenday, more accurately Billie Joe Armstrong, as it is his story more than the bands, or a fan of American Idiot The Musical then you will love this film. I live in NY and became fanatical about the Broadway musical. I saw it 24 times on Broadway and have seen it 11 more times since it has been touring. I have tickets to six more upcoming shows. When I say I became fanatical, I mean it. I expected to like this documentary, but I didn't think I would learn to love the show even more because of it. Billed as the story of how Greenday's American Idiot the punk CD became American Idiot the Musical, it is so much more. It's tells a very personal story of Billie Joe's life and he was unusually open and allowed cameras (us) to see parts of him and his artistic process that most artists would never reveal. He boldly puts himself out there for us to judge and dissect and hopefully appreciate and learn from. I think I did.
