    Revisit BRIDESHEAD

    by lugubriousthespian

BRIDESHEAD REVISITED is an irresistibly romantic tearjerker of a film that truly only the Brits know how to do this well. Exemplary acting, directing, sets, costumes as well as swift re-tooling of the sweeping novel! A must for any true devotees of this type of Masterpiece Theater fare!

    A truly beautiful film...

    by lisaloveslinkinpark

This film is so beautiful. The score, cinematography, costumes, and art direction are just stunning. All of those aspects alone are beautiful, but when you combine them, they truly make this film breathtaking. The story is a beautiful love story between three people, however, nothing is black and white. Even the end of the film is open to interpretation. Does this film agree with organized religion or does it go against it? Does religion destroy you or save you? As for the performances, Ben Whishaw portrays Sebastian perfectly. Sebastian goes through many emotions and Ben portrays them flawlessly. He truly lived his character. Ever since the first scene until his very last, he captivates the audience; he truly embodies his role, physically and emotionally. Emma Thompson is a wonder to watch. She is sometimes cold but sometimes very vulnerable. If you want to see a film with beautiful technical aspects and Oscar-worthy supporting performances, go see this!

    Brideshead Revisited

While straying from the novel a bit, the film is overall well written. Finely-crafted performances (especially from Emma Thompson), lavish sets, stunning costumes and an under-stated musical score make for an enjoyable viewing experience. The main issue of the novel--the struggle between the religious and the secular--is not lost, but made a little vague. However, one of the final shots (involving fingers dripping with Holy Water and a candle at a shrine to the Virgin) satisfied this important theme. Well worth seeing.

    Brideshead Revisited

It was wonderfully done -- the actors were really good -- well, except for Sebastian -- sorry, but I was spoiled by the PBS original movie with the super terrific actors. Emma Thompson was wonderful (as always)... The photography was very good. I loved revisiting Brideshead again after all these years . . .

    Brideshead Revisited

The photography was outstanding. The story line did take some departures from the book but it was still most engrossing and a great entertaining movie. A must see!
