Brave is For Boys, Too: Entertainment Value and a Girl Power Message to Boot!
I took my three and a half year old son to see Brave opening weekend. His likes include cars, trains, dinosaurs, firefighters, space blaster guns, typical boy stuff, and he LOVED Brave. He sat through the entire thing without fidgeting, eyes glued to the screen. When it was over, he asked to see it again.
In addition to the entertainment value, I'm thrilled that he got to see a completely different kind of princess. Lately he's been saying things like, "girls aren't tough, like boys" etc. But after the movie, he told me "Merida's strong and smart" and "really good at swords and bows and arrows". Thank you Pixar for showing little boys and girls that not all princesses need someone else to rescue them.
Both my son and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and are planning on seeing it again!
