    Sobers Only.

Branded is an intellectual perspective-bender centered around a Russian man with a knack for marketing. It's the type of flick that can be watched multiple times for finding the subtle nuances. For those who like to *ahem* partake? I'd suggest giving this one a pass. Quite a number of the metaphors will escape you, and while it's not A Scanner Darkly nuts, it certainly will harsh your buzz.

A few of the questions it raises aren't answered at the end, but after all:

There are two types of people in this world.

1: Those that can extrapolate from incomplete data.

    A New Cult Classic

I don't normally review films but I feel compelled to defend Branded from the idiots criticising it. First off, if you gave up early and walked out on this movie, I see why your complaining. I'll admit, it starts out pretty slow and boring. But the 2nd half completely makes up for the 1st. It comes to an astonishing conclusion that wraps up the story nicely. There was barely any advertising for this movie but I guess that goes along with their anti-marketing message. Basically the message is that consumers are all mindless creatures obeying the corporate logos that are subliminally controling them. I recommend it for any fans of dark sci-fi or clever indie films. If you're a fan of movies like The Avengers, The Dark Knight, or The Hunger Games, you might as well skip Branded. You're not going to understand the dark humor or appreciate the metaphors being used. Just keep following the herd to the next hollywood blockbuster and continue letting million-dollar corporations think for you.

OMG - how awful was this?

This is one of the few movies I've ever walked out of (after wasting over an hour of my life). The description of this movie sounded so good and, though it had some great actors in it (Leelee Sobieski, Max von Sidow), it was stupid and just plain weird. The creatures growing out of people's backs (supposedly representing the brand they were addicted to) were just plain stupid - they did something like that in Donnie Darko and it worked; here it was just stupid (did I say stupid twice??). In this movie it just comes across as a claymation version of "Supersize Me".

I really wonder what kind of drugs the director was on. This movie might make a GREAT cult classic, one of those "the best worst movie ever made". kind. Yikes.

Branded is Brilliant! Naysayers absolutely LACK intellectual capacity!!!

    by

the film is packed with symbolism and metaphors that takes one on a dark journey through the bowels of the advertisement and marketing industry! it is a creepily demonstrative tale of the corruption and willingness to deceive and betray consumers in order to build brand loyalty of unknowing and at times unwilling participants. the movie twists as the conscious battle against the evil and their schemes, however; forced to commit unconscionable acts of their own.

what brand is lurking on your back?

YOUR NUMBER IS UP!!!! (whether you see this movie or not)

hint: ' your number is up' is critical in understanding the sentiment of the movie...
destiny (lightening) strikes in her own time.

    Great Sci-Fi, bad flick

    by

It was a great Idea for a Sci-Fi picture. I like the soft Sci-Fi films that only technically count as Sci-Fi cause it takes place in the future or something like that. Unfortunately, the filmmakers fall short of implementing the concept. It was interesting, but boring.

    Awful...don't waste money

    by

Absolutely worthless movie. Backstory is incredibly long and boring and plot is weak. I know it's a commentary about today's consumer but it has absolutely no redeeming qualities.

Don't waste your time and money

This is not an sci-fi acion movie like you would have thought. Unlike the previews, this movie is sorta indy-styled semi docudrama and nothing like the previews shown on tv. If anything it satires itself and over markets the trailer. I thought it was going to be a movie like "the matrix" and opens your eyes to reality, but it's not. The movie takes forever to get to the plot, and when it does you're disappointed by the results. One of the few movies I almost requested a refund.

    Don't see

    by jhs39

Quirky but very bad movie. I give the filmmakers credit for doing something offbeat but little of the movie works, particularly in the second half, which is where nearly all of the scenes from the trailer come from. This was so bad I actually walked out before it ended.

Proof That Money Can't Buy A Good Movie.

It's a rare thing indeed when a film with an enormous budget, great talent and all the right assets, just can't close the deal with an audience. Yet, here it is. Is this a bad movie? Well, that depends on your threshold for entertainment. Dark, dull, brooding, inconsistent, meandering, lackluster, completely without entertainment value, all would be fair descriptions. Obviously, I didn't enjoy this film and believe me, I tried. Likely you won't ever see this in the dollar bin in the discount store because, and I know it's hard to fathom, no one in their right mind would pay the cost of DVD duplication to market it. I can actually see people returning it to the store for a $1 refund. It's just that bad, not the on screen talent, just the screenplay, direction, story and what passes for a plot. As for paying to see it. I've had nightmares that were more enjoyable. You'll be disappointed.

    Save time and money

    by

I would not waste my time or money on this piece of crap. From the 1 trailer you are able to find on it, it looks promising but trust me looks are deceiving. I almost WANT you to watch this movie just so you can see how bad it is. Like when you try some food and you are like, makes a sour face, OMG this tastes like crap taste it.

Not Worth it Even at a $1 movie

    by ocsdfw

I am very open to all types of movies, not very critical of story, plots, charactors, etc...
I go to movies for fun, take it for what it is, and if I was entertained a bit then I am happy.
I understand this movie, got its point, but all in all it was boring, dumb, should of never been realease at major theaters, if it was at some small dive independent place I would understand, but all in all this is one of the very few movies I have seen in my life that was a waste ot time, money, and use of my brain. It was just bad. Know what I know know I would of not spent the time to watch this movie for FREE. I hanged with it till the end even though I wanted to leave after 30 mins. but god was it horrible.

    Branded

    The good:

The two lead actors were both very good in this movie.
The idea behind the story was interesting; it just could have been developed much more.
Trailer made the film look pretty good.

    The bad:

First half of the movie was VERY slow.
Second half went by almost too fast. The story and certain characters in it were not explained or developed enough. Who was the old grayed haired man controlling things that got hit by lightining and we never saw him again? He was not explained well at all.
Too many unexplained gaps in logic. Russian gvt banning advertising? This would destroy their economy and would never happen over an angry mob, that apparently, the authorities could not control?
Very cheesy graphics. It was pretty laughable/embarrasing.

I would not recommend this movie.
