BOYS IN THE BAND
William Friedkin directs this very stagy version of the infamous Off Broadway play that was groundbreaking in its day for dealing with homosexual themes and characters frankly. Now it seems wildly outdated and very perverse in its self loathing. What does still score abundantly are the performances from the entire theatrical cast recreating their roles with passion and vivacity in the midst of up and down writing by the author who traslated his own work from satge to screen. A curiosity piece if anything.
