Next Best Thing To Being There

I've been dreaming of making a trip to Moscow so I can see the Bolshoi Ballet but I can't afford it yet. Then I discovered this new thing that Emerging Pictures is doing; they broadcast live classic art performances to participating movie theaters around the world. The performance companies involved are top tier (look them up at the Emerging Pictures website). In this case it was the Bolshoi Ballet performing The Nutcracker. The technical quality was top-notch from the camera work to the broadcasted delivery. The artistic quality was top-notch (after all it's the Bolshoi). However, because it is live you may get to see a rare mistake (the female Arabian dancer tripped and fell). Also, you have to wait during the intermission period just like the audience attending the actual performance. If you are an afficianado of classical performance, this is a Godsend - give it a try and tell other classic performance fans! My only complaint - virtually no advertising. Local attendance - 6 people

    The Nutcracker - Bolshoi Ballet

Great performance and the clarity made you feel as if you were at the Bolshoi theater. This is an inexpensive and easy way to see ballet and opera without having to travel great distances, and in this case, try not to get grounded by severe winter weather. Only negative was the theater where The Nutcracker was shown opened late and had insufficient personnel on hand resulting in a number of issues at the very beginning of the performance. Other than those minor problems we will be seeing Pagliacci in January!
