Biography

A multi-decade stalwart of CBS News, anchor Bob Schieffer jump-started his career as a beat reporter, covering such pivotal calamities as the John F. Kennedy assassination and the Vietnam War for a newspaper in his hometown of Austin, TX. Schieffer began his stint as a CBS Evening News correspondent at the age of 32 (in 1969) and would remain with the network for around 40 years, until he stepped down from the position to be formally replaced by Katie Couric in 2006. Beginning in 1991, Schieffer also moderated the popular public affairs-themed interview program Face the Nation.
