Haunting...

Blue Jasmine is a disturbing tale that could be based off a true story relating to a post Enron, Madoff, or Lehman Brothers scandal. The directing in this movie is excellent. The interspersed flashbacks are done well and are eagerly anticipated as we try to learn a little more of the events leading up to the present. Cate Blanchett gives an AMAZING performance. While the plot is somewhat predictable, it is well executed. My one issue with Blue Jasmine lies with the pacing. There isn't a good sense of how much time has passed since Jasmine's past. The present events also suffer from a lack of elapsed time perception. Lastly, some of the events happen too quickly to be believable. A little more time delineation and more development between major events would make it perfect. Blue Jasmine is a solid movie that will have you wondering what happens next when it ends. There's nothing during or after the credits If you like my reviews, add me as a fan. I'll add you back!

I prefer Woody when he is funny

It was well acted, but also a tough to enjoy morality play. Watching the title character Jasmine, in her slow motion train wreck of a life, is still a train wreck. I will be more careful about just automatically attending Woody's next film.

Dreadful

One of the most depressing movies I have ever seen, and only reinforced everything awful about Woody Allen! The two women did a FANTASTIC acting job. Alec Baldwin was perfectly cast for the part....easy for him to play a scumbag. AWFUL movie, unless you just want to see Kate, because she is wonderful.

"Blue Jasmine" is entertaining, moving, funny, provocative, sad, and stimulating. It is a great movie by Woody Allen, one of the most gifted film directed in history. For Cate Blanchett, this is a career-defining moment that will, at minimum, result in an Oscar nomination, and likely the top prize.

A Brutal , disturbing Look at Relationships.

I did not enjoy this film. I was affected by it by being disgusted with how people are portrayed in their relationships in the film. I suppose it is realistic and the acting is very good, especially Kate Blanchett, who deserves a purple heart for her work. However, what is missing in this film is the sly wit and humor Woody Allen has usually offered us. It is a hard film to watch. If Allen's intention is to demonstrate just how low, vile, naive, clueless and disgusting human beings can be in relationships, then he has succeeded. I found no humor in it. This could be due to the actors in it. None of them offer any laughs. It is possible I am missing something here but this film is a disturbing, sad, and over the top view of just how bad we humans are at our relationships, and there is no redeeming moment in the film to give us any hope for the future. I was very disappointed. It is charmless and not entertaining. It is kind of like going to the dentist.
