I went to see Blue Jasmine by myself, as I knew I was going to be emotionally engaged to the max...and, I was. I don't care for Alec Baldwin as an individual, but he is a very good actor...he fit the role of a desperate, wobbly "wanna be" who knew no end to the ways that he could combine lies and love, deluding himself as he destroyed his wife, child and ultimately himself...I felt for Jasmine as she had a created herself built upon a house of cards...Woody Allen could always get inside a character better than most, and he has done it again..

It's a good enough story but Cate's capture of a New York-Hamptons trophy wife is seamless!
Go, just to watch her.
Woody Allan does it again! Excellent direction!

This movie was incredibly depressing. The acting was great -- especially Cate. The dialogue was pretty good. But so little hope for any of the characters. It wasn't what I had hoped for.

I'm a huge Woody Allen fan. From the coming attractions, I thought I was going to see a comedy. Sitting next to a clingy couple who were talking and laughing riotously throughout the film, I began to think there was something wrong with me .For the most part, I was not laughing. By the end of the film, I was downright depressed. Woody Allen writes about real life, and just like real life there are moments of tragedy and moments of comedy (in the case of this film, I'd call it whimsy because it wasn't laugh-out-loud for most people). The cast is spot-on. I was never a fan of Andrew Dice Clay, but he was exceptional. He reflects the message of this film, which is of the universal struggle to come back from tragedy or move up from dire circumstances. Of course, there is all that Oscar buzz about Cate Blanchett. Well deserved buzz, but anyone cast as Blanche Dubois is bound to get nominated for something. At her relatively young age, why not just give her a Lifetime Achievement Award?
