Just saw Blue Jasmine and Cate B is spot on, and really anchors the picture emotionally. And that felt very purposeful, a kind of movie making slight of hand. Woody Allen wants us to side with her, and it works. Then slowly we see the bigger picture, and the next bigger picture and finally the complete picture of Blanchett's character, and it is so far from where we started, great story telling. It seemed to be missing some of the kinder, comic/tragic elements that I love in Woody Allen movie, but still a warm and honest view of a women far removed from being honest with herself.

We liked because Woody's own neurotic character was absent. It was interesting to focus on a neurotic woman without Woody's intrusion (if that's possible) and Cate Blanchett gave a really wonderful performance. Lots of other great characters, too.

Just a brilliant movie! Very true story. The main heroine destiny is very sad and life -typical. I know too many examples (((. Kate Blanchett is just phenomenal in this role.

I went with my girlfriend, who commented that if she didn't know it was a Woody Allen movie, she would have never guessed. The movie only had a few of the ususal Woody one liners. On the other hand, the script is a gripping story of the breakdown of Jasmine following in the classic tradition of the flawed heroine in a Greek tragedy.
Set in San Francisco, the superb cast are amazing. But Ms. Blanchett is most amazing. It is like watching a car crash. I was not able to take my eyes off her when she was on screen.

Loved how unexpected actors kept popping up in true Woody form. Also love that he wasn't actually in the movie. An Oscar nomination for the leading lady for sure.
