First of all, folks need to understand that this is a musical vs. a movie with a good sound track. That means a lot of the scenes are sung-thru rather than spoken. That might turn some folks off. The story line is predictable, but it's a good story. If I had my druthers, I would have waited for the DVD, but gotta support the cause. The featured characters have great voices; even Forrest Whitaker surprised me!

Eh, I could have done without this movie but I don't feel like we wasted our money. I don't mind supporting this movie. The acting wasn't great but it was a movie full of singers so I didn't expect an Oscar worthy performance. I guess this is something that you would like if you can relate to the story but I can't relate. I'm not sure why MJB was even in the movie?? She didn't sing, nor did Tyrese! Ugh!

I loved it because it had so much meaning. I cried, clapped and shouted out loud because I could identity with the characters. Everyone will not be able to relate--but I did enjoy it very much. For a change--no sex, nudity--just a warm, heartfelt story about the real meaning of Christ-mas! Enjoy

VERY GREAT MOVIE; PLOT; BUT MOST OF ALL THE ACTORS WERE WONDERFUL, MOVIE WAS NOT LONG ENOUGH. I WOULD ACTUALLY RATE THIS A 5 STAR SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE ACTORS.
WE NEED MORE MOVIES LIKE THAT

I went to this movie - not quite sure what to expect. Jennifer Hudson plays a single mom who loses her place and sends her son to go live with Grandparents that he's never met. Surprise, Grandfather is a minister. Angela Bassett is wonderful and beautiful and her character is so "healing."
When I started watching this - I thought "great this looks like a musical with nothing but Jennifer Hudson in it"...(eye roll). But it take surprising turns.
This little Man by the name of Jacob Latimore starts singing and he is nothing short of AMAZING! His mom sends him off on a bus...then it started getting old fast - there was a song about a "motherless child" that the lyrics were horrible... I was about to leave. Then he shows up in NY through a chain of events the kid ends up in jail. Tyrese Gibson shows up in it (I hadn't read the credits first). - I knew everything was going to change and it was going to be worth sticking around for.
I don't want to ruin the ending but I cried.
