if you read the books, prepare to be disappointed

they changed some key elements to continue with sequels, which i think they sabotaged themselves for. it was slow-moving, lacked real concrete plot in comparison to the books. even twilight had a better screenplay conversion the first time around, but it may be just me. ive been looking forward to this movie ever since they started filming last year and i was just disappointed by the screenplay as a whole. if you didn't read the books, you will probably enjoy it. the plot is JUST okay for the lamen person.

Not all books translate well into movies. From what I've read and heard, this is the case with this film. I think what those avid readers fail to grasp is that with a book the author has a vast, almost unlimited, canvas upon which to paint a story, but with screenplays, it's a 110-120 pages of action and dialog. If it's not on the page, it's not on the screen. Therein lies the a difference between books and films. Long, rambling setups in books reduced to dialog, visualization unique to a reader becomes one size fits all for a viewer. So don't go in comparing this movie to the book or likely, as with others, you'll be disappointed. Instead, experience it as a play and you'll have a much different perspective. This is a good film, not a great one. It's populated with decent performances, excellent effects, a good story and some fresh and promising young talent...well worth the price of a ticket. See it. You won't be disappointed.

I remember watching The Hunger Games and thinking, wow, they did not stick with the source material and missing all the important stuff. Compared to Beautiful Creatures, that movie was a masterpiece. As a fan of the Castor Chronicles, I have to say DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. If you loved the books, you will HATE this movie. I know no book to movie adaption will ever be like the book. But this movie didn't even have the essence that made Beautiful Creatures such a good book. The direction is awful. The script is HORRIBLE. Just. don't see this movie. These people don't deserve your money.

Liked the movie, but they took a lot of liberties with script

I enjoyed the movie. However, when I saw the movie I had never read the book and wasn't really sure what it was supposed to be about. I prefer to do things in that order. I have read the book since then. The screenwriter took a lot of liberties with the script, changing things that really didn't need changing. I'm just skeptical at how they will be able to move on to the sequels given the significant rewrite. All in all its an entertaining film, but for die-hard fans, they will be upset.

Did the director or anyone involved with making this movie even read the book??? I have never seen such a bad adaptation of a movie , no creative license here, they totally removed all the creativity that the writer of the book created. Completely removed several key characters from the book as well as just about everything that made the book great, more like a frankenstein version of the book they chopped it all up, removed key elements of the story and just jumbled it back together very badly! There were so many great elements of the book where they could have done some amazing special effects and had an amazing movie, instead it turned out like a bad low budget B movie. I feel bad for the writer of the books, they totally butchered her work of art and her vision. Read the book, DON'T waste your time on the movie!
