This film is captivating. You keep wanting to know what's going to happen next, but are afraid to see the fruition of the most current theme.
The performances are heart-stopping, the circumstances heart-wrenching, yet there is love, loyalty
bravery, fantastic fantasy, and truth to a promise. Make sure you experience it!

This is an elegantly shot story that captures a snapshot of life in a fictional, backwoods Louisiana community. Being a gal from Small Town, LA, I can vouch for the characters' authenticity. Beasts is the first depiction of unknown Louisiana culture that highlights the beautiful as much as the ugly. Hushpuppy is an absolute DOLL, and she steals the show with her simultaneously wise and innocent expressions. Do yourself a favor and go see this flick. You'll be transported to another life in another land, and you'll find the imagery nothing less than intoxicating.

I will admit that parts of it left me a little confused, but only for a moment until the captivating your girl drew me back in with her charm! Simply a must see!!

Loved it! It will stick with me for a long time to come. Visually arresting, Plausible, yet inventive story and amazing acting by the adorable 5 year old lead, Quvenzhané Wallis (now 7 y.o. I believe). Although she's very young, I could very well see her ending up with a best actress Oscar nom.

This is a brilliant film. I would like to meet the minds that conceived of and so beautifully and convincingly crafted the character of this little girl, and the world in which she lives. The screenwriter and director reveal an intelligence and sensitivity that are seldom seen in American cinema (or seen without extensive searching).
It does indeed have some heart-wrenching moments, and I left the theatre red-eyed. BUT...I am a mom-of-two who put off seeing this movie exactly because I dreaded the wrenching...and I'm GLAD I finally went. There is also laughter and fascination enough to balance the pain. Do yourself a favor and go see this film!
