Ballplayer: Pelotero
A documentary that will primarily appeal to fans of Major League Baseball. Every year on July 2 in the Dominican Republic, 16 year old males with dreams of MLB success receive offers from prospective clubs. The documentary (and drama) revolves mainly around those 16 year old MLB hopefuls & their families, focusing on two of them in particular. Though the impetus of the plot is mainly baseball driven, there are several emotional scenes with each of the players' families that depict a family struggling at the poverty level being put through the machinations of the powerful MLB. At one point a mother is forced into taking a DNA test to prove she is her son's mother. One of the hopefuls has his chances of being signed completely derailed by a very duplicitous MLB scout. A good to very good - but not great - documentary. Definitely recommended for fans of MLB.
