    Audacious AUDITION

Japanese macabre meister Takashi Miike takes the viewer on an excrutiatingly horrific thrill ride through the dark recesses of the mind in his film AUDITION which stars Ryo Ishibashi as love-lorn widower who, while seeking date candidates through the ruse of his television production talent search comes across Eihi Shiina, a shy young woman with a hideous history of puting male chauvenists in their places - literally! The film begins subtly enough, setting up this situation quite well, and about a quarter of the way through we are jolted with a few disturbing images that are as shocking as any ever put on screen. Once the plot is set in motion and Ryo realizes his terrible mistake, it just may be too late as the young woman has already discovered his pathetic device of luring women and sets her plot into horrendously high gear. The last act of this film is one of the most greulingly suspenseful you'll ever endure - if you make it that long! Have the nerve? Try this shocker on for size!
