Could have been more "Family Friendly", good message.

    by KatKar

Good to see Eddie Murphy maturing in his choices of projects. He seems to be seeking out some deeper meaning and messages in his work. You can't help but love the guy! He uses his trademark facial expressions to the max in this movie. Ruby Dee put in a touching performance as his ailing mother with memory loss. His son was adorable, wife Kerry Washington very beautiful.

The script could have been more "Family Friendly".
His scene at the hotel with his wife trying to seduce him was uncomfortable since I did have my kids with me. Some of the lines from his assistant were likewise over the top, rude and profane. Without those parts in the movie, it would have been a great one to take the kids to.

We liked the underlying message. They poked fun at his character, new age religion and spiritual journeying. It appeals more to adults than families. A step in the right direction for Eddie, looking forward to his next project.

    Great Feel good movie.

This was a great "feel good" movie. I enjoyed it as Eddie Murphy showed his versatility in this movie. I felt real good leaving the theater and I highly recommend it.

    Feel good family movie

    by Ski3MD

I loved it overall. Based soley on the movie and not its trailer, I was initially annoyed by the verbosity of Eddy Murphy's character. It WAS their intention to portray him as an annoying "smooth-talking" book agent, there was a deeper message to be found under the complexity of the character interplay. This was a family friendly movie. Point is, make your own opinion and enjoy the movie.

    Go if you like Eddie

If you like Eddie movies, ignore what the critics say and go see the movie. Its decently done and moves along well enough. I wouldn't call a blockbuster but an enjoyable time.

Fun to see Eddie Murphy again

    by

If you loved Eddie Murphy's arrogant character Kit in Bowfinger and the street con man in Trading Places, you'll really enjoy Eddie's portrayal of a conceited agent whose motor mouth is suddenly & painfully constrained. While not entirely surprising it, nevertheless, has a satisfying resolution. Eddie is at his best as the obnoxious agent wholly lacking sincerity who is schooled in his own personal development.

what does it make you think and feel

    by

I enjoyed the movie as an afternoon way to get away from my thoughts and worries.
No matter how preposterous or or laden in formula this picture may seem, I would say the message is good and don't be turned off by

the somewhat adult antics that are part of some of this movie's irreverence.

It DID make me feel and think deeply and that was worth it.

See it on an airplane or when you are folding laundry!

I took my parents to see it because they love Eddie Murphy...I should say after seeing Tower Heist , I had some hope that this one will be as good....I cant even decide what it was...its not suitable for children, its not funny, its just nothing! Dont waste $13 on it. Watch it when it comes to ABC family or something. :)

    A Thousand Words

The underlying meaning behind the premise of the movie was well played and it did make you think about how we deal with others in our lives. However, I was disappointed it was not funnier and the language could have been toned down. Maybe we should all take a step back and look at ourselves interact with people and situations for a day as I am sure it will make us better persons as Walter became in this movie.

    Good movie

    by blmack

Eddie hadn't made anything in the last few years that really appealed to me but this one was actually pretty decent. Reasonable acting, not too over the top as they have been, and I really liked the moral of the story.

As Usual: What Critics Hate, The Audience Loves.....

Murphy has a fairly checkered success rate at the box office. Obviously, some of his movies are way superior to others. This is one that he should be proud of because simply put, it works. Granted, it's a little rough around the edges but all-in-all, it's solidly entertaining and in traditional Murphy style, it's FUNNY. This film might have been just a tad family friendlier but again, it's solidly entertaining and its rating is appropriate to its content. If you're looking for a decent movie with a fairly novel storyline, this would be a good choice. See it. You won't be disappointed.

    A Picture It's Not Worth

O.K. this plot was really straight from the "Outer Limits." And while there is enough material here for a one hour TV show, not so much for a movie.

Eddie is fine. Although this is not his best work. I'm starting to think that he needs to be a tad raunchy to actually be funny. His acting chops are fine here, although there is limited material.

The wife character was whiney and not believable. I noticed the film was produced by Nicolas Cage. Perhaps this was a vehicle for him, and he called in a favor from Eddie and had him do it. Cage would have been better here. His manic nature would have made for a great character who only has 1000 words to speak before dying. Also, the entire film seemed to be one long Starbucks commercial. It was like that spoof "The Great Movie Ever Sold." I find this trend somewhat disturbing. I don't really go to very expensive movies, just so advertisers can have another crack at me. Even if you may die you must order STARBUCKS. Really?!

A MOVIE WITH A NICE ENDING

    by rmc843

We've always like Eddie Murphy. SO happy he is making movies again! We found this movie entertaining and a bit crazy.
I was happy with the message at the end of the movie. That is a nice surprise.
It made for a nice night out at the movies

    So-So Movie!

I love Eddie Murphy and his movies are usually wonderful, but A Thousand words was not his best. Had lots of cursing for a PG-13 movie. Did have some good laughs, but not worth the money I paid to see it.

It needed A Thousand Words to make this movie better!
