Beautifully done. We lived through this era. Americans were much calmer about the dangers of the Middle East because we hadn't been attacked on our soil. So, the reaction wasn't panic or war. We were angry and it was used for political fodder to bring down Carter.
Affleck did a great job capturing the times, the look and the feel of a real crisis being handled by professionals. It should be a must see for Americans because it explains why the Iranians hate us and also shows the beginning of the Fundamentalist stranglehold on the Iranian people.
That said, it is a quiet and somber film with no special effects, lots of good acting and intelligent directing. It is real life.

Although I lived through the Iran crisis and remember vividly the release of the hostages on January 20, 1981, I had no idea of what happened with the six Americans who were protected by the Canadian ambassador. This film is genius in portraying the true events. Ben Affleck and George Clooney have created an outstanding documentary of a previously unknown event in American history.

Very nicely done thriller. Well constructed and directed. It strays away a bit from the original story but it's nerve-wracking and keeps you on the edge of your seat almost all the time until the end.

This is a MUST SEE movie. Well done with kudos to Ben Aflick who both directed and acted in this suspense filled drama about the 1979 US embassy hostage crisis in Iran. It is a winner. At the end of the move everyone in my theater was clapping with some on their feet. How often does that happen???

This is the most authentic movie I have ever seen. The director Ben Affleck made you feel like you were in the 1970's. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat. I lived in Tehran in the 70's and this movie brought back all of the memories. We had groups all over the US that lived in Tehran go to see the movie this weekend.
