This is the second time I've gone to see Argo and I LOVED it. Surely right up there with Lincoln for Best Picture Of The Year! It may be my all-time favorite movie.

I had visited Iran in 1977 and had married an Iranian soon after that. I certainly went through the taking of hostages ordeal...but, here in the USA, thank goodness. This movie brought back memories of SAVAK and the Shah of Iran. I remember being told not to say anything BAD nor anything GOOD about the Shah...or I might disappear. This was during GOOD TIMES, when the Shah was there. I totally felt the terror and tenseness that these people felt. It was a very uncomfortable feeling to be there, even in GOOD TIMES.
Ben Aflack did a MAGNIFICENT job both acting and directing this movie. I don't know why he was not nominated for his Direction in this movie. All actors did a FABULOUS acting job. I really enjoyed the movie. It kept me at the edge of my seat at the end of the movie...and kept my interest throughout.

That Ben Affleck got snubbed for Best Director at the Oscars is beyond belief. This is an excellent movie that keeps you on the seat of your chair many times through it.

Terrific picture. Edge of your seat excitement even though you know how it ends before you even buy your ticket. Not for kids because of language and some graphic I images.

While the story was interesting and there were other good actors in the film, I wish Affleck, as director, had put someone else in the starring role. The real guy was Hispanic; Antonio Mendez.. Couldn't Affleck have found an Hispanic actor for this role?! Affleck was wooden, depressed and macho. In scenes where he was the undercover leader, trying to pass as a Canadian filmmaker in front of the Iranians, he looked frightened and suspicious. The camera lingered on his face too many times and, as he was the director, it reinforced my sense that this was mostly a vanity project for him. While based on a true story, much was fictionalized, and so I had mixed feelings about the addition of news footage of President Carter and others of the time weighing in on the project.
