    Applause

Quietly depressing film about an alcoholic actress. Having said that, it is one of the most beautifully acted films this year. Paprika Steen is mesmerizing and gives a great performance.

    A great Danish movie!

?Applause? is a moving movie that everyone should go and see. Danish actress Paprika Steen does an impressive portrayal of recovering alcoholic stage performer Thea Barfoed whose past battles with alcohol have cost her not only her marriage but access to her two sons. Throughout the movie we watch Thea struggle to remain sober while trying to reclaim custody of her sons. Thea tries to have an unsedated existence, but unfortunately everywhere she turns she?s surrounded by demons from her past. ?Applause? leaves you wanting more and curious to see what director Martin Pieter Zandvliet will do next.

    More than meets the eye.

Applause is only the second movie I have seen with subtitles, and was surprised how good it was. Even if you do not read every line at the bottom of the screen, you can comprehend the mood of the story and what is happening throughout the film. The main actress, Paprika Steen, is relateable to many; she as a struggling alcoholic, battling with who she is and who she wants to be. The supporting cast is just as believable, however Steen really does shine in the foreign Danish film. I look forward to seeing Paprika Steen in many more films.
