During World War I, a delirious wounded Italian soldier begins imagining that he's back in Feudal times. This plot device frames the basic story of the film, which ostensibly tells the life story of legendary Franciscan monk Antonio (Aldo Fiorelli). Sensing that the box-office value of Antonio might be chancy, the producers contrive to include a Pampanini revelry sequence, exposing plenty of female flesh in the bargain. There are also extended torture chamber sequences, for those interested in that sort of thing. Anthony of Padua entertains, but its value as a biopic is questionable. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
