A Stunningly Smart Film

This movie was exceptional. It was a play within a movie. The sets were creative and alluring. The acting was top shelf. The costumes and jewelry were unbeliievable. I loved this film from start to finish. If you read the book you will love the movie!

Good, if there was hype, would not live up to it

Good movie. It was interesting to see Joe Wright's interpretation of the story. The way they did the party scenes was not what I expected, but AWESOME. At the beginning I thought, "I hope this isn't how the entire movie is," but I left feeling like I had just witnessed some creative genius. A little disappointed with the sex scene because I went in expecting something akin to Atonement's. If you're into costume and set design, it's definitely worth going just for that — it was beautiful! My boyfriend and I loved it, but we think others probably will not feel the same way. Not necessarily a "must-see", but if you have the time and means I believe it's not to be counted as "missable".

Knightly is Perfect

Kira Knightly "was" Anna in this movie. Her plunge into despair was heartbreaking. The costuming was breathtaking as well, the dresses looked like those I viewed in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.

Weird production choice

By Ivana Vital

The idea that it's played out in some sort of "operetta" was a weird production decision. It was difficult to know who was doing what, where. It moved verrrry fast. The story is CLASSIC and a must-read for anyone who ever enjoyed a high school english class where the concepts of theme, irony, symbolism, foreshadowing, etc. are the focus. The story is FULL of that and double meanings. I would have enjoyed it much more if it was just played out as a regular movie with a story and a set - period. Although, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is so crazy, incredibly GORGEOUS it's almost worth seeing just for that! The acting was great but the premise was...well...not for everyone. Unfortunately I'd suspect that more people hated it than enjoyed it just for that reason alone. Which is a shame because the story is timeless and classic.

Artistic production leaves one wanting........

Anna was a daring artistic mixture of stage play and reality, but the production was lost on me. What could have been an extraordinary motion picture left me cold with only the fine performance of the main actors to save it. My Bet? It will either go down as an artistic masterpiece or a colossal flop. The movie going public will decide. Pitchhiker, Sarasota FL
