GOOD movie, BAD projection

This fine visual spectacle was RUINED by a mis-aligned projection lens on one projector at the Consolidated KAHALA 8 theaters, which is the only theater showing this movie. The whole left side of the screen was defocused every other reel. If you're looking to see this movie DON'T see it at this theater and if you do, complain to the manager and ask for your money back. Its really too bad, I enjoyed this movie except for the poor projection.

It is a beautiful movie, visually, but I did not care for the parts that were in a theater, like we are kind of watching a play. If I want to see a play I will go to the theater. It just wasn't consistent, maybe if they kept it going throughout, or just leaving that part out. It is based on a work of literature, so I really can't complain about the ending, but nothing is tied together at the end. Again it was beautiful to watch, and I enjoyed it to a point, but don't fully recommend it.

Too much surrealism.

I liked some of the acting, and the dialog was very good. But the surrealism I found distracting to the story. The music, costumes and cinematography were phenomenal, though.

The entire movie was unbelievable because of the way it was shot. Couldn't connect to the characters because I was too busy watching the annoying stage production happening in a FILM!!!

All the World's A Stage

And Anna Karenina makes good use of that concept. An very beautiful, poetic, and supple rendering of a massive novel. My one qualm is that Knightley, although gorgeous and the stuff that dreams are made of, is perhaps a bit too frosty to be convincing as anything other than headstrong; she conveys stuborness more than hopeless love. Jude Law is wonderful as the man who gives every opportunity for redemption, although it is hard to believe that Jude Law is the least sexy man in the room. The music is just right; not intrusive, and not tear-jerking. All in all this is one of the most mature, well developed films I have seen in a while.
