Good, if there was hype, would not live up to it

Good movie. It was interesting to see Joe Wright's interpretation of the story. The way they did the party scenes was not what I expected, but AWESOME. At the beginning I thought, "I hope this isn't how the entire movie is," but I left feeling like I had just witnessed some creative genius. A little disappointed with the sex scene because I went in expecting something akin to Atonement's. If you're into costume and set design, it's definitely worth going just for that — it was beautiful! My boyfriend and I loved it, but we think others probably will not feel the same way. Not necessarily a "must-see", but if you have the time and means I believe it's not to be counted as "missable".

Really difficult to sit through. Plodding and wandering. Took awhile to figure out the supporting characters. Keira Knightly is lovely to look at but there is no chemistry or passion or anything to grab onto with her lover. The story is so convoluted that I was tempted to walk out after 30 min., but i stuck it out.

The most beautiful movie I have seen this season. Very very special....great acting......everything about it will show your real movie making that takes you on a trip back in time and book.

I loved the book. When I saw this movie was being made, I followed it on face book, I was so excited. I expected a Dr. Zhivago type epic. The movie was beautiful, fabulous costumes, sets and scenery. But that is where it stopped for me. I thought the acting was fine, but I felt no chemistry at all. I felt the scenes being shot as they were on stage was very distracting from the story and caused it to be very disjointed. Very touching moments were ruined as the camera backed up and they were on stage. Instead of feeling the moment, I thought, what on earth? Yes, I was disappointed.

I was disappointed by this film. Visually it is quite compelling, but the conceit of presenting scenes as though being staged becomes distracting and diminishes the film's content. The novel is a deep and weighty book that treats deep and weighty subjects. In the film, they become superficial, lost in all the pretty pictures. It is all frosting and no cake.
