No, I was not thrilled with this do over....

...but I am rating it high for refraining from sex and nudity, something that most horror movies give in to all too easily. It wasn't bad. Just not suspenseful and although I like other work of Jackie Earle, freddy's look and dialogue pretty much made me laugh, not the clever humor from the original, more like a 5th grader gave him a last minute line. It would have been awesome if they'd expanded on the micro nap idea. Also, the mom....what?.....pitiful part and actress.Kyle Gallner did ok,but much better in Haunting in Conn. Will spend money once more,as I love supporting movies that use story instead of gratuitous skin and sex.

Don't waste your time or money!!!

This movie was THE WORST!!! It looked like it was going to be stupid but me and my family opted to see it anyway (for nostalgic reasons). The plot>>>DUMB, the horror/GORE factor>>>0000!!! Bad acting. Don't waste 1hr & 1/2 of your life going to see it. It isnt even worth being purchased or watched on bootleg. By the way : This FREDDY actor was WACK!!!

No replacement but it has the spirit....

Watching as many horror films as I have in the past I go to these movies trying to keep an open mind. This latest reboot of a franchise could stand on it's own if one has never seen the other movies. Where as this story takes a slight spin from the original story arc it tries to make it more beleiveable. You want everything that is happening to happen to the right people. The "pop's are well timed but become expected after a while. The throw backs to the original movie make a fan such as myself able to sit through it and come out not feeling cheated.
As you can tell there is a MAJOR downside to this. Line delivery. None of the actors were truelly inspiring. They are so ground into the mundane in this attempt to make the movie completely believable that one loses intrest or at times laughs when your not supposed to. Freddy's condition comes off as angry not evil.when he blames the kids and not the parents.
See this movie but don't expect to be impressed. Robert England is king!

The movie was ok. It had it's points here and there. The original is still the best.

Really scared they are going to have a sequel!

    by birac

Nightmare on Elm Street IS Freddy,so be prepared....this Freddy's looks, voice, wit and creep factor are all missing. It's as simple as that. I am not going with a lower rating because they tried to have something more in Freddy's past and they didn't depend on some old school slasher movie materials. However,I like it better when you get to see some of the back and forth behavior between characters "normal" life before all the killings begin, and we don't get that here.So that also brings my opinion down. None of the acting stood out at all. Wish I wouldn't have spent the money. Have to be a die-hard I guess.

    A Nightmare on Elm Street

I grew up on Nightmare on Elm Street movies and this movie has stayed true to the originals. Was nice to see more of a back story for once. Not exactly a movie I fell is worth going to the movies for, would be much better suited as a dvd but a good movie none the less

    Nightmare on Elm Street

I was slightly disappointed after watching the movie. There was suspense, but the scare factor was minimal. I found myself laughing throughout the movie. I thought I would have a sleepless night, but I didn't lose a wink.

    Interesting & Awesome!

Nightmare on Elm Street has always been my edge of the seat movie since it first came out. I can admit I was a little worried about how the special effects would have been made? I can admit the movie was a surprise to my sight. The special effects were Awesome. Kellan Lutz did an amazing job in the beginning of the movie as making it seem he was killing himself instead of Freddy. I also admit I never thought there would be anyone else talented or better than our very own Robert Englund as Freddy or come close to play this demonic character. Mr. Jackie Earle Haley did an amazing job. However, he missed out on Freddy's little humoristic remarks when he comes close to his kill. I still give Mr. Haley a standing ovation for a job well done. I never thought there would be another actor capable of playing our own Freddy Krueger like Robert Englund. He will always be the King to this story but Mr. Haley has gained the Prince status in my book. Jedlander2001

    Jackie MADE this movie

Ok, I went into this movie with moderate to higher expectations than alot of the other people I see on here. I left the movie... blown away. I love how the characters were portrayed. the story progressed nice and even. It left no gaps for questioning. It stuck as close to as needed to the original to be respectful, and also made itself a brand new image of the Nightmare through different eyes and kept it fresh. Jackie did an amazing job as Freddy. He joked a little, but kept it more sinister. He was, in my opinion, a better Fred Krueger than Robert. I know Im gonna get crap for saying that, but I don't care. He made me feel creeped out, unlike the Robert Englund portrayal. Robert did a great job. He just became too jokey and funny for me to call it horror toward the end. It was more like a dark comedy with people getting offed throughout when it was Robert. Jackie re-instilled the fear I used to feel as a child watching the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Oh, and part 2 is coming ;)
