Having not seen any of the other Oscar-nominated movies, I can not give a comparison. What I can say is that this is one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. The narration is original and insightful. The camera work is amazing. The score and soundtrack are spot on. And the acting is top notch. The quirks and intricacies of each personality are wonderful, and help to build the overall story. This was a great film, and I would definitely recommend it.

too much dialog, not enough development

I had high hopes for this movie, and left feeling kind of "meh" about it. It was an interesting premise, and I think the acting was well done. I think the writers needed to bring someone in to tighten the dialog, though - there was an awful lot of just sitting around chatting that didn't seem to really develop the characters or advance the story, and it left me fidgeting in my sitting waiting for the plot to finally move forward. Not upset that I saw, but I'm probably not going to bother sitting through it again.

Ensemble Me This...!

What a movie. The cast is impeccable and each actor gave a spectacular performance. Kudos to the director. I love character depth and development. This has it in spades. It's amazing what happens when you put together all the pieces. I'm not a fan of the Hollywood movie mill churning out garbage week after week. But once in awhile, you get true art and entertainment. American Hustle is all that.

Liberal Use of the "F" word, but great acting.

We really enjoyed this movie. Had great cast and great acting. It showcases acting talent that I was unaware of beforehand. My question is, why are so many movies so heavily laced with the F word? If I spelled that word out, you probably wouldn't print my comments, but yet it is used in movies as if it was just normal talk. Again "Why?" I wish actors would just refuse to deliver foul mouthed lines that are written into, otherwise, great movies.

Mostly boring

The movie was interesting for the 1970's kitsch and the acting was OK but both of us wanted to walk out due to boredom. Too bad we didn't tell each other until afterwards.
