AMERICAN BEAUTY!!!! RATES A 10 WITH ME!!!!!

    by highdollarnana

I LOVE KEVIN SPACEY, I really liked American Beauty. This film was a dark exploration of just how a suburban mid-life crisis between a married couple and a teen daughter can shake up a family and neighborhood as well as their lives and everyone around them. I think Kevin Spacey did an awesome job with the role and I really felt connected to him. He was not a psycho or anything like that he just wanted more out of life at the wrong time and went about it in all the wrong ways. Awesome acting by all of the cast, a wonderful plot, the film was a MUST SEE for all. I have seen it over and over again....No wonder this HUGE film was such a BIG HIT and stole a lot of AWARDS and well deserving I might add, go a head and check it out for yourself!!!!

This is #2 of my all time favorites

My #1 fav, Gone With the Wind is much older, but the elements are similar to what I loved about American Beauty. The camera shots are exquisitely framed. The dialogue is real life drama for its time. It was very sexy, and the taboo issues such as "the gay men next door" in American Beauty parallel the slavery issues and poverty of the deep south after the civil war that GWTW portrays. I love Kevin Spacey anyway, in anything. My favorite scene, the most breathtaking, in my mind, (second to Scarlett throwing herself at Ashley Wilkes) was the one with the plastic bag that was being filmed and the dialogue that neighbor Rickey Fitts gives about life. It was so deep and symbolic and profound. That's my opinion, anyway. :)

good movie, maybe not for everyone

    by Unyun

Personally I really liked American Beauty. It was a dark exploration of how a suburban mid-life crisis can shake up a family and neighborhood as well. I think Kevin Spacey did a fantastic job with the role and I really felt connected to him. Wasn't a psycho or anything just wanted more out of life at the wrong time and went about it in all the wrong ways. If you like to think about movies or like movies that don't really follow a linear path then this will be great for you. But if you're expecting something straight-forward and too the point then don't bother. Not that you wouldn't get it but you just wouldn't want to get it. But overall great movie with a great cast and solid story that anyone can claw at least a piece of themselves out of.
