PROS: Excellent cast & acting, decent music.
CONS: Uninteresting, the scenes dragged, long sophomoric dialogue
Going into the movie, you wanted it to be good. As it dragged on, you begged for it to do something, to get better. But it never does and you leave there actually furious that you bought into the hype and glowing reviews only to have just lost two hours of your life to a really REALLY awful movie. You wish that you had left an hour into it like other people in the theatre did, at least they didn't lose 2 full hours of their life.
Two thumbs way down.

Truly enjoyed this film. A Scorcese-like film without the brutality, nice. Enjoyed the intelligent script, the quick dialogue, and the genuine 70s look. I highly recommend this movie.

THERE WAS SO MUCH HYPE SURROUNDING THIS MOVIE THAT I DECIDED TO GO SEE IT OUT OF CURIOSITY...THE LINE UP OF A LIST MOVIE STARS WAS ALSO ONE OF THE REASONS I WANTED TO SEE IT, BUT LET ME TELL U THE STORY WAS BORING AND CONFUSING ..I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS MOVIE WAS NOMINATED FOR AWARDS...IM PISSED AT MYSELF FOR WASTING MY TIME AND MONEY

The premise/story line here is excellent. As such, it should have resulted in an outstanding movie. Think "The Sting." However, IMHO, the movie suffers from poor editing. At least a half hour of dialogue that went nowhere should have been edited out and would have resulted in a crisper, more focused story. Also, while Christian Bale obviously worked very hard, both physically and psychologically, at transforming into Irving Rosenfeld, all I saw was Christian Bale acting. The same occurred with Bobby De Niro as the mobster. Ideally, an actor who needed a less dramatic transformation into Irving Rosenfeld would have been preferred, as well as a less recognizable movie star as the mobster. Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence were each outstanding in very difficult roles. Bradley Cooper's acting was outstanding in what was a purposely confusing role. Louis CK was also great. This should have/could have been a great movie.

The movie's hype was better than the film. The film was slow at best, in fact at one point it put me to sleep ( no joke). Would have walked out but am a big Christian Bale fan (Batman trilogy, et al) and liked Amy Adams (of late Man Of Steel). Was slow and barely realistic, the best was the end. Try again.....
