The Feel Good Movie of 2008

The African-American Edward Scissorhands of the South has arrived! Thank you Scott Galloway Brent Pierson for making this film. It is very rare to see positive films about African-Americans. How does a sharecropper's son go from picking cotton to turning adversity into something beyond the American dream? The answer is hard work, determination, and a lot of divine intervention. When the door closed on Pearl Fryar to living in his neighborhood of choice another door opened in the form of a neighborhood contest that would make him a mentor, pillar of the community, to national celebrity. The Lord does work in mysterious ways. There is something for everyone in this film. A Man Named Pearl is the epitome of turning a "no" into a solid, bonafide, backed by spiritual power "YES". See it today and buy the dvd when it comes out in November.

    This doc is cool!!!

If you ever needed a break from the crazy everyday life we all live then this is it.
This doc is like a breath of fresh air in an overcrowded, airport smoking area. It is sublime and subtle and quite well done. Pearl Fryer, the son of a sharecropper, shares the spotlight with his amazing and mystical garden of Peace, Love and Goodwill. This film is the perfect pick me up for all of us who toll inside each day at our work, yet long to be outside doing something fun and meaningful.
This documentary is a sleeper and worth the price of admission.....You will walk out of the theater feeling better about the world around us.

    A Man named Pearl

    by myst41

A new resident of Bishopville SC wanted to win the Yard of the Month award from the local garden club. Without any formal training he has created one of the most unique topiary gardens in the world.
He won the Yard of the Month, first time ever for a Black man in Bishopville.
He has accomplished what the experts say couldn't be done.
Now, the community is behind him and is using topiary as a symbol of the community.
The theme of the garden is Peace, Love and Goodwill, and it works.

It's a feel good story of a man that has a vision of creating a space by using his own creativity.
Pearl has started a Foundation to help young people that otherwise wouldn't get help and he encourages everyone to exercise their own creativity.

A must see moving human interest story

Had no idea what I was going to see and was utterly blown away.
A terrific alternative to the BIG summer bloatbusters.
    Excellent!

You have to see A Man Named Pearl

This movie is a blessing. I went with my entire family and we all loved it. It is an incredible journey about a humble man in a small town in SC. Despite the obstacles in his life, he is able to positively impact an entire community. Pearl has a gift of turning discarded plants into amazing pieces of art and this ability transcends into his perspective on life. He is able to see the beauty in every human being. Enjoy the movie! It is a gem.

    Everyone Should See This

This is a great documentary. The main character shows that you do not need a degree or professional background to succeed in anything in which you put your heart and soul. The movie shows how a person who works hard can not only overcome obstacles without a big grudge, but also how one can make those around him proud and even rejuvenate an economically dormant community. Congratulations to all those involved in the making of this important movie.
