Narcissistic drudge

This is clearly Robert Redford trying to feel a little good about himself and the results are just a couple of hours of narcissistic drudge. It feels heavy, self-serving and each turn is very predictable. It would have been so much better if he actually drowned.

All is lost? You got that right! I lost $7.50 and about 2 hours of my life watching this thing. Absolutely no dialog or the reason he was even out there. I don't know what movie the critics were watching. All I can say is WOW! I'm being kind with a so-so rating.

Boredom Midst the Storms

All Is Lost is difficult to critique. Technically, it is a superbly made movie. The camerawork, visual and special effects fabulous. Redford acting splendid. However, I floated in and out of boredom. I kept thinking, must this storm go on forever? All the survival tactics are very interesting but not for almost two hours. The basic plot summary is that a man sailing in the Indian Ocean has his boat damaged by a cargo ship and the rest of the movie shows how he fights for survival through storms and other disasters; from trying to save his boat to abandoning it for a life raft. I think that for anyone who loves sailing or other outdoor adventure this is the real deal but for me, give me a good old chick flick any day. But I am glad I went to see it because I am sure it will be getting lots of award recognition and I think JC Chandor is a wonderfully innovative new filmmaker to watch as he progresses.

Boring and predictable

I found this movie to be very boring and the character played by Redford totally uninteresting. I honestly didn't care if he survived, but instead couldn't wait for this movie to end. You have absolutely no idea why he is alone on a boat or who he is or why you should even care about his fate.

Love Redford but hated the movie

Robert Redford has always been a heart throb of mine...... pitter patter pitter patter.....However !!, as much as I love him I cannot recommend seeing this movie. Honestly, the preview was better!! Very slow, boring, and predictable. Part way through the raft flips over and he manages to get back in and oh how amazing so does all of his survival supplies!!!! Wait to rent if you still want to waste some time at home.
