This movie is breathtaking! It ended up being so much more than i expected. Robert Redford is extraordinary! I can't imagine a scenario where he doesn't get at least an Oscar nomination, if not the award itself. The film is artfully directed. Please go! "Gravity"? If you want thrills, see "All Is Lost".

A film purist's delight. Only one spoken word in main film. Acted to perfection by Redford - it would have been easy to overdo, but he didn't. Tight shots were poetry; underwater scenes tugged at imagination and emotion all at once. Desperately wanted to recall the precise narrative at prologue; it was the blueprint. Adored every second; brought Cast Away to another level and a true art form.

It's a nicely made film nevertheless. Fans must have been hungered for Redford a long while. So, this is what lured me to see it, since the critics say it's a MUST GO. Well.... I would say "SHOULD GO". It's the story about a man who's brave enough to set sail all alone, only to be presented with many surprises. The wonder of it is that at every turn he's come up with some smart maneuver to get out of it, either by reaching deep into his intelligence to deal with it, or into his deep cache to come up with a miracle tool, or even stire, to deal with it. It's really a miracle that were were given so many tools, so we should NEVER be afraid to set sail into the wind/sea alone.

I went to this movie with sailors and they found the character completely unprepared to be that far off shore. It was difficult to warm up to the character and I think Robert Redford needs someone to play off of. Solo's not his best platform. I think it's a renter.

Maybe if you are a saiing afficianado you will appreciate this movie. It seemed to me to be the same problems over and over. I also felt a little sea sick watching all that water.
