Valentino celebrates beauty and haute couture, and is a mostly well-crafted movie. It focuses largely on two people: Valentino and his 50-year associate. From the vantage point of a fly on the wall, you learn a lot about the high fashion industry, including behind-the-scenes shots. I wish the camera would have stayed a little longer on the close-up handiwork, the fabrics, and the other characters. I got a little tired of studying the faces of Valentino and his associate. However, compared to the blood and gore and inane slapstick movies around, Valentino: The Last Emperor shines because of its creativity, novelty, and emotional depth.
